Differentiate between personal and human resource management
approaches and its corresponds with the organizational objectives
Different strategies and policies are adopted in order to perform several
activities to achieve the strategic goals of organization. The
personnel and human resource management differs over different
perspectives related to the approaches that are discussed as below:
Definition: Personnel management is the predominately and
administrative record-keeping function that aims to maintain and
keep the proper record of several aspects related to employment. On
the other hand, Human resource management is the integration of
various functions which help in effective dealing of several prospects
to ensure the effective performance of manpower.
Approaches: Personnel management is the traditional approach
which helps in managing people within organization. Whereas,
Human resource management is the modern approach that manages
the workforce and boost the capabilities to perform various
operations in the organization.

These skills can be enhanced with the help of techniques and the
methods that improves the overall performance of Intercontinental.
Attending the seminars and conference while help to enhance the
communication skills and will result in an effective functioning .
As it will provide the platform to exchange the different ideas and
effectively accomplish the strategic goals of Intercontinental.
To enhance the technical skills several workshops would be
conducted to carry out the operations to attain the strategic goals of
Intercontinental and the employees would be able to enhance their
time management skills.

Nature of relations: In personnel management, the relation between
employees and management is on contractual basis. On the other
hand, the nature of HRM is based on maintaining an effective
relation as they are the essential aspects to carry out various
operations of organization.
Contract of employment: In context to personnel management, the
framework is very rigid. Changes and modifications cannot be made
into it and the contractual comprises of several stipulates rules,
regulations and policies. However, human resource management is
concerned with the flexible contractual framework in order to make
modification as per the suitability of employees.
Pay policies: The pay policy is very complex as it depends on the
skills and competencies which the employee inherits in him/her with
respect to the job that they are performing within organization.
However, in Human Resource Management, the pay policies are
designed to enhance the continuous performance of employees.

Job design: The job design is very functional and is done as per the
division of labor according to their functionality. Human resource
management and job design function is done on the basis of teamwork
and group work.
Focus: The main focus of personnel management lies over the individual
administration, welfare and the labor relation. However, in HRM, the
focus is laid upon the acquisition, development and effective
management of workforce.
Decision-making: The decision-making power is centralized and all the
decisions are made by the top level management. Under HRM,
decisions are made collectively in order to enhance the employee
participation and develop competitive environment.
