Plan to achieve team outcomes
Scenario:
You are the manager of a sport event of your choice (It can be a major sport event, a smaller
event from back home or you can even create one, for example Sport competitions,
conventions, fund raising).
You will be in charge of the event for the first time, and you need to write a report
explaining the different skills you will use in order to lead a team effectively. You should use
what you have learned in this module and explain how you will apply this to making sure
your event and its preparation runs smoothly.
Aspects to cover for this section:
1. Background information and overview of your event: establish team purposes, roles,
responsibilities, goals, plans and objectives in consultation with team members.
Event: Football tournament
Team Purpose: Utilise, maintain and improve the levels of physical activity and skills
while making the activity enjoyable for participants and entertaining for spectators.

Develop coordination, team play, focus and capacity building within the team.
Roles and Responsibilities:Trainer responsible for identifying activities needed to
prepare for the sport, warm-up and cool-down strategies needed and
duration/frequency of practice.
The coach would be responsible for leading the team, providing instructions,
directions and guidance to the team, motivate players to achieve the team goals,
monitor team and player performance, manage team activities, provide feedbacks
and orient the players towards team objectives.
Team Captain would have the responsibility to represent the team, support other
team members, help in the training of the team, engage the team to participate in
teamwork andcoordinate with other players.
Goals:Improving physical fitness, agility and endurance among participants and
improving teamwork and coordination,
Plans:four-minute jogging sessions and temp run, box squat, Bulgarian split squat,
high box jump, sprinter sit up, dribble practice, 100m run and interval sprints, team
practice.
Objectives: Increase endurance, speed, muscle tone. Improve posture and balance.
Improving control over the ball and improving coordination with other players.
2. Explain how you would engage with team members to incorporate innovation and
productivity.
Innovation and productivity can be incorporated through strategic
engagement of team members. While practicing for football, different players can be
given the task of helping their teammates to exercise. Pairing players who can help
each other in turn can help to improve coordination. Additionally, motivating the
players can also help to improve their performance, and improve the productivity.
For effective team management, a detailed strategy is vital that can outline the
practice sessions, health and performance assessment and improvement strategies
can be identified. Every player wouldget equal opportunities to discuss any
challenges faced by individual players or the team, and suggest solutions for them.
This will foster participation of the team members in strategic decisions, and provide
them the opportunity to take up additional responsibilities. Training would help to
develop the skills of the players, improving their competencies as a team member

and help the team to perform better. The team captain, who is chosen from among
the players, would also encourage the team members to perform better thereby
improving the productivity. Innovation in playing strategies can be supported
through the expertise of the coach and trainer. Additionally, giving recognition to
members who show innovation and productivity in their word would be given
rewards and recognition for their contribution to the team.
3. How you would support your team in meeting event plans and objectives.
One of the most effective methods to support the team to meet even plan
and objectives is through a detailed and well-structured action plan that can identify
the activities that are necessary for achieve the objectives, and how to assess and
improve their own performances. A coach can also act as a mentor and leader, and
motivate team members to perform better, and thus creates a drive to achieve the
objectives, identify mistakes and the best practices to manage
performance.Motivating the team towards the goal of winning the tournament, and
showing them the picture of a bright future in professional football can also help to
orient the players towards the team objectives. It is also vital that any barriers
towards communication between the team members, the coach, trainer and
management be eliminated, and effective communication strategies be
implemented. Team captain can also support participation of other players and assist
the less experienced members in the process. Developing a positive environment,
where every member is respected and every contribution to the team is
acknowledged can be useful to encourage the team members to perform more
efficiently and reach the team plans and team objectives.

communication and teamwork can also promote the inclusion of the members in the
process.
2. How you encourage and support team members to take responsibility for own work

Team members can be supported and encouraged to take responsibility of
their own work and to assist each other by creating a favourable and positive
learning environment. This can foster a positive attitude, team bonding, and
motivate the members towards team performance. This can also encourage
members to help each other out and improve coordination. The team coach and
team captain can also act as leaders and motivators, leading by examples of their
own action and inspiring others. Explaining the team how teamwork and self-
competency can help them to achieve a bright future in professional football can
also motivate them to take more responsibility of their own work and help each
other while on the field.
3. Explain the importance of giving feedback to your team members
Sharing feedbacks with team members can help the members to identify the
strengths and weaknesses at both individual and group level, and thus help to
overcome the weaknesses and improve the strengths. Effective feedback can also
help to motivate the members, and improve their performances. A two-way
feedback can help to improve the communication between the team members and
management, helping them to understand each other in a better manner. This can
also help to orient the members towards the team goal and the management
towards the concerns or inputs of the players.
4. How you would address issues identified by team members and what approaches
and behaviours you would implement to do so:
Issues identified by the team members can be addressed in either the group
or one on one (individually). Constructive feedbacks would be used to address the
issues, and addressed as soon as possible. The aim would be to encourage the

the issues would also be done with openness and honesty, and leaving minimal
scope for ambiguity. Also, addressing the issues or concerns of the player would be
done in a professional, ethical and respectful manner.
5. What kind of approaches would you adopt in regards to conflict resolution? 46
While resolving conflicts within the team, four strategies can be utilised
depending on the situation. These strategies can be competing, accommodating,
avoiding, collaborating, or compromising. Each of the strategy can be used under
different sets of circumstances and conflicts, involving different combinations of
assertive or co-operative behaviour as a manager.While resolving conflict between
players, the viewpoints of either of the conflicting parties taken into account and
discussed openly. If possible, the needs of either side of the conflicting parties would
be accommodated, and if not, solution can be achieved through collaboration or
compromise, without hurting the interest of any side.

work team for your sport event.

1. Explain the importance of encouraging your team members in actively participating
in team activities.
The team members can be encouraged to participate in team activities by explaining
them the importance of team effort and coordination in order to become an
effective and well performing team. The members can also be encouraged through
motivation, fostering coordination between members, setting clear objectives for the
team, boosting their confidence and fostering a positive environment.Also through
better performance of the team, the chances of winning the tournament and
outcompeting other teams would increase. Moreover, through good team
performance and by winning the tournament, every member would also increase
their chance of having a successful football career ahead of them.

The ability to identify and solve problems can help team members to be able to
understand the scope for improvement in the performance and the skills and
strengths of themselves and others. This can further help the members to identify
strategies to improve their strengths and bridge weaknesses, and thus improve
overall team performances, and enable each member to be his/her own critic.This
strategy can be vital on the field, when the players have to make instant decisions,
and identify opportunities real time and work towards it. This strategy can prove to
be vital for professional and personal development.
3. How you would ensure the own contribution to work team serves as a role model for
others and enhances the organization’s image within the work team, the
organization and with clients/customers.
Effective leadership can include leading others by examples. Setting up standards of
performance can be done through highlighting my own achievements and
performance records to the team, which can motivate them to strive towards better
performance. Also, this can help to instil confidence of the clients and customers, in
my ability to lead the team towards a better performance.Using my achievements to
inspire the team members and instilling in them the hope and need to perform
better, telling them that they also can achieve similar and even more success in their
career can help in team development. A good leadership can also help to promote a
positive image of the team.
4. Briefly identify and explain the most common Leadership styles. Which is the one
that had better represent you?
The most common styles of leadership includes: autocratic leadership,
democratic leadership, strategic leadership, team leadership, cross-cultural
leadership, facilitative leadership, transformational leadership, transactional
leadership, coaching leadership, charismatic leadership, visionary leadership. Each
type of leadership influences the team members in unique and different ways, but
with similar objectives of improving skills and performances, and to ‘lead’ members
to a shared goal or objectives.
The leadership I use is a combination of both Coaching leadership and Team
leadership, where I take an operational role to improve performance or results and
leading the team towards a common goal.

1. Explain the importance and how you would maintain open communication with line
manager
An open communication helps in a two-way conversation in an open, honest and
respectable manner. This can help to improve the relation within the team.
Open communication can be maintained with line manager through frequent
meetings, performance review and feedback sessions and using communication
technologies. Open communication can also be supported by fostering a positive
working environment, in which feedbacks from all levels would be encouraged and
appreciated. A two-way feedback system can be used to support an open
communication, where both the team members and the management can provide
feedback on each other’s performances and understand each other’s views and
objectives.
2. Explain the concept of synergistic communication. Would you implement this within
your work team?
Synergistic Communication is a communication strategy in a team setup,
where any problems and challenges that is faced by the team is openly discussed,
from various points of view to reach a solution. This can also help to develop a long-
term relationship within the team as well as with the clients. This strategy can be
useful to be implemented in the team and foster an environment of continuous
improvement, and clarity in the teamwork, team performance and team
objectives.In my team, would encourage synergistic communication in order to
identify and analyse every problem from every direction.

Communication and reporting are very vital to ensure progress and
productivity of the team. Effective communication strategies can help in the effective
sharing of team goals, performance and two-wayfeedbacks, and thus help to identify
scope for further improvement. Similarly, good report can help in the assessment of
the productivity, performance and orientation to team objectives.
Team reports can also be improved by following a well-structuredformat that
is easy to understand and visualise. Reports can be effective strategy to monitor
team progress, by identifying the achievements of key milestones of team
performance, and showing the productivity of the team.
4. How will you pass on information to your team from the management?
Team performance reports can be shared with the team members through
team meetings, and using bulletin boards and online communication platforms such
as whiteboards. Individual or one on one meetings can be used to share individual
feedbacks with team members.The strategy used to share the information would
however depend on the sensitivity of the information and how personal the
information is. Information such as team performance and management policies can
be put on team boards and bulletins, while specific individual feedbacks can be
shared one on one. The team captain can also act as an additional interface for
passing information.
5. If there are any problems or issues, how will you follow them up with management?
In cases of challenges or problems, the management can be followed up through a
systematic and timely approach, using professional modes of communication such as
emails and memo, and other forms of digital communication. Setting up objectives
for resolution is also useful, as it can help to focus on the key agendas that needs to
be clarified with the management. Along with the agendas, a specific timeframe can
also be used, that can ensure the agendas or problems are discussed within a
specific timeframe. Meetings can be held for follow up sessions on a regular basis, to
ensure the issues are being addressed.
