According to Yazdani, Yaghoubi and Giri, (2011) other than motivation, nothing works
in a better way. For the success of an individual working in the firm, motivation acts as a
catalyst. It is the responsibility of team leaders as well as managers who should constantly
motivate the employees so that the best can be extracted out of them. In case if an employee
performs his allotted tasks in an exceptionally well manner, management should appreciate him.
For the same, simple words like “Well done” and “Keep it up” can be used that actually go a
long way in order to keep the employees highly encouraged to perform their tasks. Abadi and
et.al., (2011) say that management should understand that the top performers must be in the
limelight so that they would always feel to be valued and recognized that will provide high
motivation to them and thus, company would enjoy the benefits gained out of them. It is
significant for the management to make employees feel indispensable for the organization as it
keeps them satisfied and willing to work in the long run. Company always need loyal employees
who can support them in that time as well when it will be going through a bad phase and for the
same, it is essential to keep the motivated so that they can deliver their level best. Thus, it can be
said in the words of Banjoko, (2010) that to keep the employees stay with organisation for longer
span of time, companies are required to motivate them as it is the key to provide satisfaction by
which they perform with high efficiency and effectiveness. Motivating employees leads to give
various benefits to organisation by which it can attain the set targets within stipulated time period
in an effectual manner. Therefore, it can be said that for Hilton Hotel, it is highly important to
keep the workforce motivated so as to retain them in the long run.
However, as per the views of Cadwallader and et.al., (2010) it can be critically analysed
that in today’s ear, employee retention has become a major concern for the corporates. In such a
competitive scenario when there is intense competition in between firms, it has become the
tendency of individuals once to move to other organizations for attaining better prospects. There
are some reasons because of which employees look for a change like lucrative salary, growth
prospects and comfortable timings. But, when an employee who is an asset for the firm decides
to move on to other organisation, it is the responsibility of management and human resource
team to intervene immediately so that the actual reasons of leaving firm of the individual can be

found and initiatives to retain him can be made. For any kind of initiative made for making the
employee stay within organisation, it is essential to keep him motivated (Cadwallader and et.al.,
2010). Therefore, it is proved that motivation plays a significant role in making the employees
stay with business for longer span of time. Thus, it can be said that there is a strong relation in
between employee motivation and their retention.
In accordance with the views of Danish and Usman, (2010) for motivating employees,
rewarding them is highly important for the achievement of goals as it is a far more effective way
of increasing productivity than punishing them for the failure of performing tasks. Various ways
are there by which employees can be motivated in the organisation that are categorised under
monetary and non-monetary rewards. There are plenty of simple but effective ways which
employers can use for keeping the workforce highly encouraged and enthusiastic. Under
monetary rewards, employees can be given with bonus, incentives, increment, etc. However,
under non-monetary rewards, firm needs to provide appreciation, recognition, promotion, etc. for
the performance of employees. It is believed that non-monetary rewards generally proved to be
more effective than monetary but, satisfaction level differs from employee to employee (Danish
and Usman, 2010). It is the responsibility of management to assess the need of employees so that
they can be motivated accordingly and thus, retaining them would be easy for the firm. Thus, it
can be said that employee motivation is highly important for Hilton Hotel to retain them in the
long run.
