1. Overview about the Change
1.1. Reason for change
The chief information officer of Sunoco Inc., Mr. Smith has decided to involve
change implementation plan in the organization. It started with fact finding
since file drawers comprised of valuable records, required for operating the
business along with the infrequently utilized records (Hayes 2018). The main
reason for such change was to migrate the most vital operational data into
Amazon Cloud after getting driven by broader global information accessibility
program and market competition, since storing these data in one data center
could be extremely risky in advent of natural disaster or fire.
1.2. Type of the change
The change is an emergency change, since Mr. Smith of Sunoco Inc. is
concerned about his data security and privacy and thus he has taken the
decision to migrate his operational data to Amazon cloud for undertaking
advantages of cost savings and maintenance of the own data center. He is
even planning for introducing a completely cloud based data warehousing as
well as business intelligence software for making highly informed business
decisions within the company (Cameron and Green 2015). A smooth and
successful change is being ensured after development of the change
management plan. This particular plan would define each and every role and
activity for managing and controlling changes in the execution and
controlling stage of the project. Thus, quality, change, issues and risks are
well managed with such distinctive plan. Moreover, with data warehouse and
BI software development, he would be able to implement the changes in the
business.
1.3. Scope of the change
The boundaries of change are as follows:
i) The entire organizational team and members would be affected with such
data migration.
ii) The main assets included for this change in Sunoco Inc. are hardware,
software, computer systems, workstations, data communication lines,
servers, routers and telecommunication and network equipment.
iii) Since, there would be data migration, the department that is the most
affected would be information technology. The confidential data of the
company gets affected in this department and the impact of this change will
not be same on other departments, although they would be little affected due
to the changes.

2. Change Analysis
2.1. Process Change
i) The change is about the data migration that is taking place to cloud
platform. Data warehouse and BI software development would also be
executed in this change for successful change management.
ii) The major changes that are being broken down to the individual
components mainly include selection of the data, preparing data, extraction
of data and finally transformation of the data for permanently migrating it
from one computer storage system to the next. Data could be transformed
into information and is made available to their users in a periodical manner
for making differences. With the help of data warehousing, it would be easier
iii) The changes can be done differently by identifying the overall data
formats, sensitivity and location. Finally the migration tool and other
organizational members are being assessed eventually. It is also helpful in
executing the entire plan of data migration and the final system is being
tested so that the plan of data migration is being maintained efficiently.
Moreover, these changes would not impact on the overall business processes
of Sunoco Inc.
2.2. People Change
i) As Mr. Smith, the chief information officer of Sunoco Inc. is planning for
introducing a cloud based data warehousing as well as business intelligence
software in the organization, it is evident that it would be affecting the
individuals, working in that particular company (Cameron and Green 2015).
The major roles in this change include computer systems analyst, IT analyst,
network coordinator, and computer and information systems manager.
Moreover, the CIO himself is impacted with these changes. The new role that
is needed for this purpose is network administrator for implementing data
warehouse and BI software.
ii) Tying up with other popular and significant organizations to ensure better
data migration would be the most effective approach for Sunoco Inc. New
relationships are required to be created with that particular software
company so that the third party company gets the opportunity to maintain
new software of BI and new process of data migration to cloud platform.
Furthermore, data warehousing would also be implemented in the easiest
manner.
iii) Training regarding cloud platform, data warehousing and BI software
should be given to each and every staff of Sunoco Inc. so that they are able
to understand the execute the processes with utmost efficiency (Doppelt
2017).
