INTRODUCTION
Digital transformation is a modern technique of working and adjusting according to the
world. Digital transformation is defined as adoption of digital technologies to transform services
and products as well as business operations of an entity through replacing non digital and manual
processes with digital processes as well as by changing the older digital technology with the new
one (Sebastian and et. al., 2020). The project will be focusing upon 7 critical areas for identifying
the digital transformation taking place in a entity. At first the case for change will be identified,
then more insights will be captured, moving along with appropriate information decisions will be
made and accordingly talents will be engaged and acquired. Moreover the discussion will be
revolving around developing a digital ready culture within the organisation, making
collaborations and selecting appropriate leadership and leaders.
TASK 1 - THE CASE FOR CHANGE
Introduction of the company
The chosen company for focusing upon its digital transformation is Sainsbury’s which
was established in the year 1869 and known as the second largest supermarket chain of the
United Kingdom. The company deals in the retail sector founded by John James Sainsbury and
headquartered in London, UK. The company has around 16% of the supermarket sector captured
and it became the largest retailer of groceries in London in the year 1922.
Explain the threats this company is facing due to digital disruption.
Sainsbury is a local company that is the brand has a presence only in United Kingdom
and it is not a multinational brand operating around several locations in the world. Does the
biggest threat which is being faced by it during the modern era and digitally transforming retail
industry is to be competitive and give cutting edge competition to its competitors. Some of the
very common competitors of Sainsbury’s are Tesco, Asda and Walmart which are widely known
organisations and holds a huge popularity in retail sector around the world. Therefore staying in
business and competitive enough is the biggest challenge and threat that is raised by Sainsbury in
order to maintain its position of being the second largest supermarket store in the United
Kingdom (Morakanyane and et. al., 2020).
