3TASK 11.1 Comparison of different management stylesThere are different styles and techniques applied for management of any organization andits product services. It includes autocratic, democratic, paternalistic and so on. Under autocraticstyle, manager only directs and gives instructions to employees of the company while throughdemocratic style, manager presents aims, planning to workers for following on preparedstrategies. In this regard, manager analyses problems and reasons behind its occurrence. Therefore, different managers have various skills and traits for managing business operations andits performance. Including this, planning and instructing to be followed on affects on quality ofmanagement. In addition to this, democratic and autocratic for reaching out set targets andsolving out the issues. Likewise, taking decisions for operating business activities affect itseffectiveness. Different managers have several tricks to motivating employees and taking theircontribution in team work effectively. I have chosen two organisations namely Airbnb and Novotel Hotel from Accor. Airbnb isone of the most aspiring groups in the hospitality field. It is a premium marketplace for homestays enabling people to find short-term lodging and accommodation with hosts. Brian Cheskyfounded Airbnb in 2008 (Airbnb.co.in, 2017). Mike Curtis, V.P of Airbnb engineering said thatthe mission of Airbnb is to make people feel home everywhere and this is also the managementstyle and culture of Airbnb (Thomas, 2017). Airbnb has adapted an approach from the top todown management style and freestyle management style. At Airbnb, Managers are justfacilitators, and they exist to get obstacles out of the people’s way. These obstacles can beinformation obstacles or career obstacles (Thomas, 2017). Managers do not give orders toemployees at Airbnb. Employees are expected to be motivated by the mission of Airbnb andequipped with enough information to their managers. Managers do not tell them how to impactin work. Airbnb is trying to define both its products and its company around the hospitality. The

4management at Airbnb is more similar to Fayon than Taylor as the management is going fromtop to bottom, empowering individual people (Hofstede, 1993). Novotel is one of the brands ofAccor group in the medium category. With over 400 hotels in the World and over 266 in Europealone, it is one of the leading medium brands in the World (Novotel.com, 2017). The Hotel chainhas cultural diversity in its management, and thus its management style is depicted in the way ithandles its employees. Its culture drives on skills, attitude and satisfaction. The organisationbelieves in sharing the vision with its employees. Management should know how to makeemployees smile (Docplayer.net, 2017). 1.2 leadership characteristicsThe leadership style of Airbnb can be best described as charismatic. As per BrianChesky, the organisation is a boat with half in water and half-afloat (Gallagher, 2017). In thelower half, there would be holes (problems), and his job is to solve them. He says that althoughthey empower the organisation and its leaders to take decisions and management act asfacilitators, there are many decisions that he takes without much discussion with the terms. Hebelieves that when there is a decision taken in consensus, it create a middle way. In key places itis not right to take the middle way, you take a risk in extreme ways to evolve (Gallagher, 2017).This is not a sign of an autocratic leader because the decision power is not limited to one person, but it is given to the organisation with the limits. Therefore, effective leadership activity is useful to guide and instruct its team workers forproper contribution in working in group. However, leadership styles related to initiative ishelpful to lead any group effectively that affects team building. Including this, an ideal leader isaware of working styles of each team workers that is valuable to segment work according to their

Leadership is an approach for leading people and reach out to team's set objective. Anideal leader builds team consists of its members and segments work to all group workersaccording to their abilities. In this regard, it is required him to have skills of encouragingemployees for better quality of work and contributing in group efficiently. However, his abilityto dealing with each member and solving any issue occur at workplace is needed to createefficiency of organization. It is helpful to create positive environment of organization as wellpreparing strategies for implementing friendly atmosphere among all workers.Characteristics of leadership:- Taking responsibilities:- leadership is an approach for leading team and takingresponsibility of group and its members' performances. However, it is trait to reach outset target through taking accountability of whole team. Therefore, it is one of the mostimportant characterise of a leader to be responsible for decisions and each workers'contribution for organisation's effectiveness.Positive attitude:- Being positive and having positive traits for reaching out to set goaland solving out any issue regarding team working. In this regard, hissupportive team building remains able to meet goals efficiently. 1.3 Communication processIn the Novotel Hotel, the management believes in a leadership that suits bothtransactional and transformational leadership (Docplayer.net, 2017). Transactional leadership isall about keeping the operations in normal flow (Ingram, 2017). Here performances arerewarded, and the focus is on the seamless flow of work. There is not strategic guidance in the

6leadership. So this is required to keep the daily work in the hotel (Ingram, 2017). Novotel doesnot need strategic changes in the day-to-day operations of the hotel this is limited to servingclients in the best way. Transformational leadership is all about looking beyond the day-to-daymanagement and creating strategies to craft the next level performance (Ingram, 2017). This typeof leadership is required in the hotel to continuously improve the Hotel management and beingcompetitive in the organisation. Novotel has leadership that fits in both the categories where themid-level management focus on the transaction leadership and the higher-level focus on thetransformational leadership (Docplayer.net, 2017). Communication involves two sided process for expressing and sharing information. There is two sides is available for sharing it as sender and receiver. However, first sender sendsmessage to receiver through different sources as verbal, non-verbal and audio-visual channels.Further, receiver gets message and thinks to reply and decisions on the topic. Further, receiversends or replies sender's message is termed as communication process. This is a method fortransferring information from one place to another between sender and receiver efficiently. Inrespect of organization, sharing information among different departments of Novotel Hotelincluding marketing, finance, HR and other that affects communication and sharing ideas. However, it is related to discussing ideas and business activities among them set a specific goalas well creating environment of Novotel Hotel effectively. Different department coordinationwithin organisation allows to improve communication effectiveness. It helps in meetingobjectives and improving performance. 1.4 Organizational structureAirbnb does not believe in the top to the bottom communication process. Each leader isgiven a chance to grow and takes responsibilities. Their superiors who are often facilitators tothem give them all kind of assistance. This has lead to a way where people can introduce ideas, and these ideas stand in the organisation based on merits. This kind of communication has
