2Data communication and network
Summary
This report is about the software development company called the private biomedical
software development company and is located in gold coast region.
There are three main branches namely A,B and headquarter where they are configured to
make a local area networks that are then connected to each other to form a wide area network.
The management had decided to implement a new network and network address plan for the
entire company branches, the proposed network is meant to enhance communication, sharing
of resources, easy data manipulation and quick analysis to enhance quick and effective
decision making.
The report had therefore highlighted the process of logical and physical network
implementation, the drawing of the network layout and indication of the various network
devices ip addresses and the routers interface addresses, however the entire network address
plan for both IPV4 and IPV6 address space are covered.

4Data communication and network
1. Introduction
1.1. Purpose
The purpose of this report is designing physical and logical designs of the local area network,
the network IP address plan preparations, and creation of the three local area networks to
make a wide area network of the private biomedical software Development Company.
1.2. Background
This company deals with the development of the software applications and it is distributed
across three branches and therefore the management team had decided to implement a new IP
address plan which will be optimized and able to expand in future, the IP address plan will
utilize the IPV4 and IPV6 IP address spaces as indicated below (William, 2014).
i. IPv4_Network: 191.2.XY.0
ii. IPv6_Network: 2001:1234: ABCD: XY00:: /56
In this case the XY are the student’s ID number last two digits which are obtained from the
last three digits as 196, below are the representation of the IPV4 and IPV6 IP address spaces.
i. IPv4_Network: 191.2.19.0
ii. IPv6_Network: 2001:1234: ABCD: 1900:: /56
1.3. Scope
In this report there is wide scope of the areas to be covered which includes:
i. Preparation of each sub-network’s IP addresses requirements.
ii. Preparation of each sub-network’s IP address allocation plans for both IPV4 and IPV6
IP address spaces.
iii. Preparation of the key network devices and interfaces IPV4 and IPV6 IP address
allocation plans.
2. Organisational Description
2.1. Assumptions.
During the designing of the proposed network below are the assumptions made.
i. There are different IP address spaces for each sub-network.
