Introduction
Tourism and hospitality business have seen a rapid growth within past some years.
People are choosing to have a quality time for themselves in their daily and hectic life. Taking a
break from the everyday life may involve having an outing with friend, family or going on a trip.
Considering to this fact tour and tourism business have seen a significant bloom. Hospitality and
tourism is a sub division of tour and travels which cares for the hospitality and organizing for
guests. The business is very competitive in nature and due to this fact, it is very important to
keep hold of the customers and treat them with the best experience. Destination North America
(DNA) is a business, which takes care of the tour, hospitality services offered on cruise for their
customers. This report is a reflexive writing about my experience as an intern at Destination
North America (DNA), Vancouver. This report include a brief summary of the business and my
job responsibilities at Destination North America (DNA), Vancouver. Furthermore, in this
report, I have shred my experience at the company and how will this job help me achieve my aim
in life.
Discussion
Overview of the company
Destination North America (DNA)’s offices are based at Vancouver. The address of the

The company takes care for planning trips for their guests. The company have few
packages to offer for the customer who are looking to have a trip or to host an event or a

function. The packages include client reception and hospitality services at cruise. The services
offered are luxurious and tailored for the customers to give them the best experience while their
stay. Apart from the planning and reception services the company also offer guide services for
the customers. The guide service offers visiting destination and planning the complete trip for the
consumers.
Destination North America (DNA), Vancouver supervises the entire trip of the guest to
ensure the customers have their best experience with the company. It is supervised right from
embarkation and disembarkation processes. The company take the responsibility to make post
and pre cruise arrangement for the clients as well such as hotel, pick up and drop facility from
the airport and the hotels
The interview process
The interview process started with few of the screening round following to an interview
with the company’s personnel.
Job onboarding
Job Onboarding and training
My regular day at Destination North America, Vancouver was interacting with customers
and solve their queries. My responsibilities were to help the customers by addressing their
queries with onboarding, check in, information on customs, bag and luggage. I also assisted the
customers personally whenever it was required.
I worked under the constant supervision of my supervisor who guided me through my
entire daily activity in my early days. However, I was supervised, most of the times I had to deal
with the consumers all by myself and was told by my supervisor if I needed to improve on

something. The training I went through was check in training given by various cruise
representatives through lectures and presentations. The supervisor was friendly to work with and
it help me learn things quickly.
My experience
I had a very good experience while my training at Destination North America (DNA),
Vancouver. It helped me to understand the corporate environment and help me in my personal
development. The four traits that I believe to be improved are
 My fluency in English communication.
 Professionalism in my conversation.
 Addressing the guests, and have a good image of me.
 Problem solving and time management.
If there is anything that I would do differently if given a chance is to manage time in a better
way. In this business time management is a very crucial aspect to manage to have the guest have
their best experience.
I would happily give my experience and the company a grade 9 on a scale of 10. The
company is very professional in their functioning and have everything optimized and structured
within themselves.
Introspection about your job/company
SWOT Analysis
 Strengths- the company is very well organized and professional in their job.
 Weakness- wheelchair accessibility is not good.

 Opportunities- laying efforts to make wheelchair accessibility more convenient could
have a specific edge over others.
 Threats- rivals are a big threat, unsatisfied guests are never visiting again.
I would definitely suggest other CapU students to look forward for this experience with
Destination North America (DNA), as if there is lot to learn from this job. The exposure to the
corporate they will experience here is the best for to kick-start the career with. The people are
very supportive and helping.
I was able to pull off networking at my job at Destination North America. I have interacted
with others employees working together and we shared our identity cards with each other as
well.
During your work, how did the formal education you received at Cap U help you achieve
your best at work?
I have learned cross culture among some other subject. This really helped me in my job at
Destination North America. My job majorly involved interacting to guest and having a
knowledge of cross culture I was able to understand them and deliver to them in a better way,
like how to greet them and how to communicate with guests of different ethnicity and culture.
The soft skill I developed whilst doing my job is leadership, work ethics,
communicational skills, problem solving skill, convincing and motivating speaking.
I had to work on the check in software of the company this helped me develop my hard
skill working on the client check in software. I also gained experience in working on MS Excel.

Career and Future Prospects
My plans for my future is to have my career as GM in a Hotel. My plans for achieving
my targets to work on communication skills and have more fluency in communication. Having
more confidence in myself, ability to start a conversation from scratch will help in achieving my
objectives. Understanding customer service and relationship will help me perform my duties
more effectively. My next move would possibly be to get in the hotel industry and start as a front
agent or housekeeper to understand the technicalities from the elementary level.
My overarching goal is to be a General Manager at a hotel, the endeavors to pursue like
starting as a housekeeper or improving my communicational skills, is to add experience to my
resume and learn about the industry closely.
The practicum work did not change my career objective rather it intensified my desire to
be a General Manager. I feel more confident about my goals post working at Destination North
America.
The experience I gained at Destination North America will definitely help me in
achieving my future objectives. My next plans for the courses I would opt at CapU for working
towards my objectives would possibly be some leadership programs.
Conclusion
The report narrates my experiences of working at Destination North America. The
experiences I acquired will definitely help me achieve my targets in future. I have also stated my
next steps toward achieving my goals. These are improving my soft skills and pursuing some
relevant courses at the university. I would definitely suggest Destination North America for any
other university student looking forward for a job in this sector.
