INTRODUCTION
Emotional intelligence can be described as an ability where the person is able to
understand the emotions that they are feeling and the emotions of others as well. These people
then use this knowledge so as to manage their expression of emotion so that it does not become a
roadblock in their life (Bar-On, 2010). It is believed that those people who are having high level
of EI are having better understanding about the physical, social and mental impact that negative
impact have on themselves. These people are able to understand the feeling of others point of
view in an easy manner. This assignment will discuss the competencies of EI in detail which are
Self awareness, Self management, Social awareness and Social skills.
TASK 1 – Self Awareness
PART 1
1.Brief description of the event
Self can be defined as a situation where a person is aware about the feelings that they are
having along with their attributes and qualities. In this basically three types of skills are noticed
which are:
Emotional Self Awareness
Accurate Self Assessment
Self Certainty
One situation that happened in my life where I was able to feel so many emotions at the
same time was when my parents decided to get divorced. I consider this as the most memorable
event of my life as my life completely changed after event. I was literally shattered after listening
this news as my dream of having a happy family broke down. Also, I was feeling so disgusted
that about the fact that I became so busy in my life that I didn't notice the fact that my parents are
not happy in their life.
There were so many people who were present on this day and they all were feeing the
same what I was feeling. Nobody wanted this to happen but none could manage to change their
decision. It was a very emotional moment for my whole family. I was thinking that I will not be
able to live with both of them now.

a. Description of feeling
Before that I was really happy as I was not aware about what was going in my house and
what my mother and father are facing in their personal lives. So, I was very normal but on the
next day when I heard that they were getting divorced, in was literally broken and could not day
anything. That feeling was very bad and I was just crying all day.
I was having mixed feelings when this situation came into my life as I was feeling
saddened, fear and angry as well. I was literally feeling that all this happened because of me. I
was very angry about the fact that my parents did not think of me when they took this decision
and fear was that regarding the situation that I will be living with either my mother or my father.
When this activity was taking place, all the close family members were present in my
house and were telling my parents to reconsider their decision as it will have a very bad impact
on my life as well as their life. They all were trying to convince my mother by telling her that she
will not be able to live alone or her will be destroyed after this. They were also suggesting that
after this divorce session, with whom I will live and later on it was decided that I will live with
my mother.
b. Reflection on the answers
I was having a hope that all this get better soon and my parents will live together again
very soon. It had become fantasy situation for me now. But my mother was very sure about her
decision and was not ready to change it.
I was fine with the fact that now they both will live happily but at the same time I was
horrified with the fact that I will have to live with one of them only. But my feelings did not
changed their decision.
I believe that the way I reacted was very normal and any other child would have reacted
in the same way as I was reacting.
c. Reflection on how emotions are controlled
I controlled my emotions by thinking about my parent's happiness . I thought that my
parents should be happy and for that if I have to sacrifice my happiness then I will do it. I also
decided that no matter if I have to live with my mother but I will still be in contact with my
father.

I don't want to face this situation again in my life and if I had to face it again then I will
try to deal it in a better manner and think positively. Keeping my parent's at the priority will only
be my way of dealing with this kind of issue.
I believe that the way I behaved at the time when I received this news very natural but if I
could react in a different manner then I think that I should have behaved in a more matured
manner and try to know the problem because of which all this was happening.

1 My day started with the arguments that was going on in between my parents. Later
on, I went to my school. After coming back , I eat some snacks which was prepared
by my house help and then I sat to do my homework. For my next day at school, I
had to wore white uniform so I made sure that all that my uniform is well ironed
and ready. I cleaned my shoes as well. During dinner also, I again heard my parents
fighting but my house help suggested me to sleep.
2 Again my day started with the noise of arguments. On the breakfast table , in saw
that my parents were not talking to each other. Since I know little bit cooking so I
preferred to make my favourite breakfast to eat and I decided to offer it to my
parents as well so the home environment can get better and we will be able to spend
some good time together. . After coming back from school , I asked my house help
that what's the matter between my mom and dad and why do they fight all the time.
But she ignored me and told me concentrate on my studies. In the same manner my
day passed and I slept again after having my dinner.
3 My day started with a smile as my mother was sitting right beside me and was
smiling as well. This made me feel really happy. I quickly woke up from the bed
and took bath and dressed up well for the school. Since I knew that my mom and
dad are not in good mood so I decided to make them happy by telling them that I
have scored highest marks in class in tests that happened last week. . I eat my
breakfast and I went to my school. When I came back I mother was waiting for me
and then she shared with me that she is taking a divorce with my father . I just went
to my room and cried.
4 This day all I did was to convince my parents that they should not take this major
step as it will snatch away all our happiness but neither of them listened to me. So, I
decided that I should behave in a mature manner and will think about the reason
why my parents are taking divorce. So I got engaged myself in various kinds of
house hold chores like cleaning, cooking etc. so that I can forget about what all is
happening in my house.
5 On this day, I tried to control my emotions and attempt to know the main issue
because of which all this was happening. I even called my grand parents into my
house so that they can come and handle this whole situation. My grandparents
health is also not good so I had to take care of them as well so that they remain fine.
I cooked food for them and made sure that they took their medicines on time.
6 My parents finally decided to tell their final decision to the whole family that they
were getting divorced and they will now live in separate house. I was very sad as I
wont be able to live with both of them now. But I also knew that both of them are
now happy in their life so this made me feel better as well.
7 I was told that I will be living with my mother and thus me and my mother packed
our bags and shifter to my maternal uncle's house. But later on my Mom arranged a
good house for us where we can live happily and peacefully.

2. Reflection of dairy
Since I was mature enough my mother told me the whole situation that they were getting
divorced by mutual agreement as they were not happy together . I was content with this fact that
my mother considers me this much capable that she can share all her worries with me. I was
having only sad emotions during this time as I was not ready to understand
anything and my mind was not ready to accept this fact that my mother and father will not live
with one another .
No, there was no activity happened that has brought negativity inside me because I was
having a hope that everything will get fine very soon.
Yes, my grand parents gave me a hope that all these issues are temporary and everything
will get better soon. So, it gave a positive feeling.
Yes, I was having fear and anger both at the same time as the situation was very
shocking. But I managed to control it by thinking that it involves my parents happiness.
Yes, when I was told that I was going to live without my father at that moment I was
literally broken.
My strength was my positive attitude and my weakness was my love towards my parents.
TASK 2 – Self Management
PART 1
1. Understanding one's emotions and how they affect others
I have understood that a person has the capacity to control their emotions and they can
manage their behaviour on their own. Emotions are a part of everyone's life and no one
can escape from this.
My behaviour or emotion will have a strong on only those persons who are very close
tom me like my parents and my friends. If I will be angry then they will try to make me
relax and if I am sad then they will try to cheer me up.
If I will have better understanding about the emotions that I am feeling then I will be able
to handle it in a more better manner and it will give us a tool for making a tool form
making decisions that will be best for me.
The causes that have been identified are like anger, anticipation, trust, surprise, shock,
sadness etc (Benson, Ploeg and Brown, 2010).

The control and manage my emotional triggers I try not to think of it more so that it will
not affect me much and also I will also try to come out of my fears by facing them.

have to learn to accept the fact and also learn from my previous mistakes so that I should
not behave the same like earlier.
For managing my stress, I usually listen to my favourite music and do my favourite

Emotions are having a very strong place at the market because we as humans behave in

with self control measure I try to cool myself down and does not react much. Also, I try not to
indulge my personal life and professional life together and try to give my colleagues respect
which they deserve.
