INTRODUCTIONToday, each and every manager is facing challenge of developing their firms whereemployees performs with higher efficiency and make their firm a developed work systemwhere right number of people are being employed with right resources and can make fullerutilization of the available resources as well as opportunities in accomplishing the goals ofthe firm. To function as a high-performance work system, all the above defined elementsshould match appropriately with the others to have smooth operations (Mee-Yan andHolbeche, 2015). It is important for the companies to determine the type of people thatmatches with the needs of the firm and should locate, train and motivate those people toincrease the productivity as well as long term financial performance of the firm. Concerningthis, the present research report also aims to offer understanding in regards with developmentof skills as well as knowledge to accomplish high level of performance is cross organizationactivity. For this, case study of Whirlpool HPW is being taken under consideration. Thecompany is facing crisis and the workers need to have organizational as well as strategicchange to sustain the firm upon the major restructuring. To achieve restructuring, Whirlpoolis clearly aware that they need to engage their workers in high performance assessmentprocess and requires necessary changes to have high performance work system. Pertaining tothis, as HR consultant to the company, the report will highlight the ways in whichperformance management, effective communication as well as collaborative working canhelp in having high performance culture as well as commitment. TASK – 1P1 Considering the “company crisis” scenario of Whirlpool which culminated in the year2011, the North America Region Staff of the company was held reliable for organizational aswell as strategic change so as to sustain the firm upon a major restructuring. The whole teamof Whirlpool was aware of the fact that they need well informed, effective, cross-functionalcollaboration and timely decisions for taking the business in forward direction, as the firm isdependent on its teams for innovation as well as higher productivity (Stewart and Rogers,2012). To have restructuring, the firms is required to have professional knowledge, skills andbehaviours by their Human resource professionals so as to ensure high performance worksystem and these are being described in the below paragraph: 3

Skills- It refers to ability to carried out the tasks or activities with identified outcomeswithin given time period. It is capacity as well as ability that acquired systemic, sustainedeffort and deliberate to carried out the activities. Skills required Communication skillsIt is important for every individual to have this type ofskills to interact with each other. With the assistance ofthis they easily share their views and opinion with the aimof making positive relation. Along with this, it is alsobeneficial skills for all the employees perform atworkplace because by using this skill they can easilyexchange new and innovative ideas to perform allottedtask in appropriate way. Teamwork skillIt is also play important role in business organization toestablished positive and healthy work environment. Inaddition of this. manager of Whirlpool company is alsoresponsible for resolving issues arise in team by criticallythinking. For this effective interaction is must to share allthe issues with manager. Through this, all employees willwork in a team together for attain specific objectives within given period of time. (Pendleton and Furnham, 2012).Knowledge required Value chain knowledgeSeeking help from this, the HR managers of Whirlpoolcan add value to the goals of the organizational. Thevalue chain process starts with HR activities ad process,followed with HR outcomes and organizationalobjectives. In other words, it clearly shows how humanresource activities lead to the goals of the organization.Legal rules and regulationsIt is important for human resource manager to havingproper knowledge about all the legal laws and regulation.By this they easily accept all the chances within theirbusiness activities as per legal activities. This willdirectly contribute in improving performance level of thecompany. Behaviour Accountability andperformance measurement It is important for the HR professionals to accept theresponsibility of their actions and must demonstratecommitment to achieve work in an ethical manner. TheHR professionals of Whirlpool is required to prepareemployees to make improvement in their performanceand productivity. The performance of the employeesshould be measured with proper instruments and tools sothat they can guarantee best performance from theemployees in this critical time of Whirlpool’s business.Conflict managementIt is quite vital for the HR managers to possess suchability that helps them in remaining highly effectiveunder extreme pressure (Cummings and Worley, 2014).4
