Task 1
1.1 Analyse the application of pedagogical principles in own area of specialism

Pedagogy is the practice of teaching in a specialist subject. There are set principals that help in

practice of teaching in a specialism subject. My area of specialism is health and social care and

there are certain principals of pedagogy that will help in the teaching practice in health and social

care. Some of the pedagogical principal in health and social care practice are evidence based

educational practice, effective learning in workplace and patient partnership.
There are five
theories of pedagogy that helps in managing the behaviours of the students and at the same time

analyses the creativeness of an individual in order to manage classrooms. Those principles or

theories are motivation, elucidation, activity direction, criticism and lastly inviting any kind of

imitation. The first principle, which is motivation, is dependent on the behavioural approach of

the teacher towards their students. Motivation is considered proper when the teacher understands

the perception, views and thoughts of the students and designs their teaching process according

to the students’ views.
On the other hand, good exposition often requires the capability of the
teacher. For good exposition, the teacher requires having a proper knowledge about the subject

and apart from the teachers; the internet is nowadays an effective medium that is providing good

and bad exposition for the students.
The third principle, which is the activity direction, describes
the importance of proper instruction in classroom so that the students can be managed and

controlled in a better manner. On the other hand, if the students are not criticised then there

might be a chance that they will become obsolete from their goals. However, bad criticism is

never acceptable as it might demoralize the students. Lastly, the teacher must not perform any

such activity, imitating which the student might face problems in their future. It is the duty of the

teacher to practice good behaviours so that the students can follow those (Ruby
et al., 2017).
Evidenced based education practice: This principal helps in transitioning campus students into

health care professionals. The evidence based education gives the students glimpse of the

practical situations that they have to face in as a health care professional. This type of teaching

principal also helps in improving the research skills of the health and social care students (
Hultin
et al.,
2018).
Effective learning in workplace: in any other subject, it is not mandatory to have effective

learning experience in the workplace but for health and social care students it is very important

3

that they have practical experience in workplace because any other learning experience will less
authentic (
Anderson et al., 2015).
Patient partnership is another pedagogical theme that will be able to achieve aims like

communication and interpersonal skills. For any health and social care student it is very crucial

to develop a partnership with the patient and they have to make it part of their learning practice

from the beginning (
Zingaro, 2017).
1.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of use of creative and innovative approaches in own area of

specialism

There are various creative ways teaching that is currently being used in the health and social

care, which is my area of specialism. Health social care uses a lot of simulative technology to

give the students the authentic experience learning. Technologies like 3D and Virtual Reality

technologies are used to show the student real life situations regarding health and social care.

Recently there is also encouragement in apprenticeship, which is again, creates the endurance in

the students and it shows the students ability to deal with realistic situation. Simulation is another

method that the students are encouraged to take part. In this type of study method, the students

are given problematic situations and students have to come up with various ideas to solve the

situation practically. This allows the students to brainstorm and come up with various innovative

ideas as well. These are all part of evidence based learning practice that is encouraged in the

health and social care student. These innovative methods of learning make the learning method

much more interesting and students enjoy these methods more than traditional way of learning.

The students also get exposure of authentic work experience in the health and social care, which

is very important part of innovative approaches of learning. In addition, it can be said that the use

of technological tool has to be done properly otherwise, it will be of any use of the students. The

solutions given through simulations needs to be practical as well otherwise it might not be

effective for the students as well (
Ruby et al., 2017).
3.1 Analyse theories of behaviour management

The behaviour management is also very important part of teaching. Pupils are noticeable for their

either good behaviour or bad behaviour. Therefore, the teacher’s role in it is very important. For

better behaviour management in the health and social care students there are different theories

that can be followed. Skinners Behavioural management theory is one of the most effective
management theories. This theory explains the behaviourism and social-learning theory broadly

for understanding the right behaviour in the classroom that the teacher needs to encourage. This

theory also outlines consequences for both good and bad behaviour from the students. There is

also reward and punishment system that this theory outlines so that the students can be

encouraged to behave properly in the classroom. This allows the teacher to develop a
reward
system
for motivation and discouraging the bad behaviour in the classroom premises. There are
also other theories, which emphasises the reward system, like
Jones’ positive classroom
discipline
. In addition, this theory also gives importance to body language and attitude of peers
of the students.
Body language of the students is very important and specially being a health and
social care student one has to develop proper body language. It is also part of communication

skill therefore; students will not be able to communicate with the patients effectively if they do

not have proper body language (
Payne, 2015).

Reflective Learning Journal

this journal fit into

assessment task no:

UNIT-1 TASK-6, Reflective report on my own teaching

Analysis of ways in which minimum core elements were demonstrated in planning,

delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning.

There are different methods used by me to create inclusive teaching and learning. I have created a

inclusive learning module keeping in mind the diverse range of students, who are part of health

and social care. The course module is all-inclusive so that all the different types of students can

take part in it and learn it effectively. Including students with different background and experience

is done to encourage inclusive teaching and learning. This helped in creating a respectful and

productive learning environment as well. There are also assessment that has been done to analyse

the improvement of students through the inclusive teaching and the assessment of the methods also

done to deliver expected results in this method of teaching and learning. The assessment makes t

everyone aware of the effectiveness of the methods and if there is any shortcoming in the methods

that can be also dealt with as well (
Cook and Fleck, 2017).

Analysis of ways to improve your own practice in planning, delivering and assessing
inclusive teaching and learning

To improve the ways or methods of inclusive teaching and learning constant assessment is

required. The requirements of the students are meeting or not needs to assess as well and how

these method of teaching is affecting them needs the students to be analysed as well. The teaching

practice needs to be reflected regularly to encourage the professional growth. The authority needs

to be committed in aspect as well. The strategies and framework for inclusive teaching needs to be

evaluated often to understand how it is affecting the learning environment.

How I could develop my knowledge and understanding as a result of this
assessment task / session:

Through this assessment task, I will be able to identify what are necessary steps that I have to

implement in the learning environment to increase the inclusive learning and teaching. I have

identified different methods of implementing inclusive learning and teaching and I will implement

these strategies to encourage inclusive learning. I have also identified the need of assessment to

understand the effectiveness of the methods. This also made me aware of the fact the there are

other ways as well which can be utilised to improve the effective learning and teaching in health

and social care. This assessment has also emphasised the fact the inclusive learning increases

productivity and the discrimination in the learning environment can be decreased as well. My

knowledge has increased regarding this matter and different ways of assessing the learning and

teaching methods are something that will be my take away from this. This task has also made me
understand better the importance of diversity in the learning environment. the need of flexibility

and adaptability in the learning and teaching is also something that i have now very appreciate

because they input a lot in the inclusive learning and teaching system.
