INTRODUCTION
Learning and development are two essential elements that give benefit to organisation and
individual as well. Each firm aims to hire skilled employees in business unit so that operational
efficiency can be improved. Human resource manager is responsible for giving them training so
that people can raise their skills and can improve their knowledge (Armstrong and Taylor 2014).
This makes them suitable for the post and workers get career development opportunities in
organisation. Present study is based on Hilton Hotel that is the leading firm. Hotel has raised its
brand name by offering amazing services and products to its guests. Current assignment will
discuss knowledge, skill and behaviour require in HR professionals. Furthermore, it will conduct
personal audit of Jane Cambridge in order to identify training and development needs of person.
Report will create professional development plan in order to improve lacking points and develop
capabilities in HR professional. In addition, contribution of HPW to employee engagement with
reference to Hilton hotel will be discussed. Assignment will also explain different approaches of
performance management and its significance will be illustrated.
SECTION 1
a) Knowledge, skill, behaviour require by HR professional
HR manager has to perform various role in organisation, individual is responsible for
making communication among all departments, giving training to staff members, managing
salaries, planning, recruiting etc. It is very important for the human resources manager of Hilton
hotel that to have necessary knowledge, skill and behaviour in order to perform their duties
significantly (Bratton and Gold, 2017).
Knowledge
HR professional needs to have knowledge of process of recruitment, selection,
compensation etc. As HR is responsible for implementing policies, hiring talented people,
resolve remuneration issues, managing salaries etc. For Performing these roles individual
is required to have knowledge of employment law and government (Brewster, Chung and
Sparrow, 2016).
Furthermore, it is essential to have knowledge of customer and personal services. It is
duty of HR that to build healthy relationship with employees and consumers. For that
individual has to understand their requirements and have to fulfil their desires. Thus,
having knowledge of principles of customer of personal services is essential.

always assist in retaining skilled employees of company in business for longer duration.
HR professional of Hilton Hotel always have to be motivated attitude, there should not be
any kind of negative attitude otherwise, person will not be able to retain skilled

From the above personal audit, it has been identified that there are several things that need to be
improved in Jame Cambridge HR officer of Hilton hotel. Individual needs to develop technical
skill so that person can operate different software adequately. Furthermore, individual is also

staff members easily and developing healthy relationship with all workers. In addition, individual
is required training on improving problem solving skill and interviewing skill (Armstrong and
Taylor 2014). This will help in resolving work based problems significantly and run operations
effectively. By developing interviewing skill human resource officer of Hilton hotel will get
benefit of selecting right people for the right job in business unit. Human resource manager is
always require knowledge of policies and procedure so that entire operations can be managed
significantly.
C) Professional development plan (PDP)
PDP is the document of skills that are required to be improved by persons. Human
resources manager is the most important person in organisation. It is very important for the
person that to have adequate knowledge and skill so that individual can perform its duties
significantly. Senior authorities create PDP, they guide people and specify some strategies
through which professional development can be held (Bratton and Gold, 2017).

overtime in the hotel as compared to B. overall we can say employee A is giving his
contribution for the welfare of the company compare by B.
Attribute approach of measuring performance- in this approach employees are rated on
the basis of some factors they should have skills that how to solve any problem their
communication and judgemental power and they should have creative mind ton generate
some innovative ideas. The limitation of this method is that it is accurate and identifying
only the best and worst (Fedai, Altınay and Dağlı, 2017). For example A and B both are
employees of hotel. Employee A is more creative and he have all the skills, innovative
mind and judgemental as compared to B. so on the basis of these specific parameters A
will be ranked first.
Behavioural approach of measuring performance- as its name showing the mean of tis

the oldest methods of measuring performance. for example A and B both employees are
working in hotel Hilton. So according to this approach they both would be ranked on the
basis of their behaviour in the organization. If A is more talkative and humble for other

Result approach of measuring performance- concept of this approach is very simple
where employee 's are rated on the basis on their performance result. Two types of results
are there first one is balance scorecard technique and the second is productivity
measurement and evaluation system. for example there are two employees A and B both
are working in hotel Hilton according to this approach if employee A is doing work
according to need of the hotel. That how well they both are following the objectives of
the hotel.
Quality approach of measuring performance- this approach based on the get the feedback
of employees from peers ,clients and managers on their personal and professional traits
with them (Li, Mitchell and Boyle, 2016). For example employee A and B both are

reducing his errors in hotel services and achieving continuous service improvisation so he

good behaviour for their work and relation it will become organisation culture.
HPW also include tainting and development programme provided to employees which
enhance the skills and competency of employee and employee also feel that organisation also
have concerns for their carrier growth, it helps organisation as low employee turnover ratio.
When an employee feel happy with his job than it reflect it his interpersonal relation and relation
with supplier and other stakeholder (Cummings and Worley, 2014). It also improves employee
reputation in industry. Organisation easily get human capital whenever it need because people
want to join the organisation.

training and development session with a motive to boost the performance of employees. It also
assists in shaping the behaviour of employees through which company can able to attain its
