According to Royal College of Nursing Diabetes is a result of high blood glucose level or
blood sugar in a human body. As with light to the fact that, blood glucose in the main source of
energy which is generated from various activities such as eating food. Keeping blood sugar level
within the prescribed rang of doctors could prove to be a challenging task for an individual.
Spreading light to the fact that, rise in sugar level of a human body is an impact of number of
factors. Nursing staff plays an important role as well as clear responsibilities while dealing with
various diabetes patience across the global. With all the formal treatments and medication,
nurses of a hospital take care of personal needs and desire of various patience ongoing through a
disease. A registered nurse in diabetes management section, plays different defined roles and
practices to ensure best possible treatment to a diabetes patient undergoing treatment.
Screening, prevention and early detention of type 2 diabetes: This is one of the role that is
played by nurses. It includes prevention and early aid to type 2 diabetes. Various practices
undertaken by various nurses of diabetes management are as follows:
 Describing various risk factors for type 2 diabetes.
 Explaining importance of prevention onset of this disease in individuals at risk.
 Explaining the role of exercise in prevention of Diabetes.
 Explaining importance of weight control and following a proper diet plan for controlling
sugar level in a human body.
Promoting Self-care: Moving forwards towards another role that nurses of diabetes
management plays is of acknowledging importance of self-care. Various practices played in
respect to this, are as follows:
 Supporting patient and helping them progress with their self-care with little interference
of guidance from a registered nurse in diabetes management.
 Observing and reporting of any issues that is highlighted while delivering treatment to
any of the patient.
 Encouraging patient to use their personalized care goals and objectives.
Nutrition: Another role of diabetes management nurse is to ensure adequate amount of
nutrition is provided to respective patient undergoing medication in a certain hospital. Various
practices being followed up by specialized nurses in this field are as follows:

 Identifying content of drinks and food that is consumed by the patient that has high
sugar amount.
 Following a proper and well managed nutrition plan and also reporting various issues
and problems highlighting during the course of treatment.
 Accurate measurement of patient waist, weight, height on a regular time interval.
Various boundaries as a diabetes management nurse
There are various boundaries under which a nurse has to operate while treatment of
different diabetes patient. These are as follows:
Lack of Knowledge: Due to absence of knowledge about the real cause and precaution of
diabetes, nurses of different hospitals have to face various difficulties in providing treatment to
various patients. Generally, most of the patients ignores various precautions given up to them
on the fact that, they don’t find is appropriate to various individuals.
Lack of specialisation: The medical field is a wide field, due to unavailability of
speciation various nurses have to face difficulties in treating various patients.
