Assessment 33572/03 Written AssessmentE1031BT Certificate IV in Youth WorkModule 2: Working with Diversity This is assessment 3 of 3.1. Background/OverviewSociological factors play a huge role in shaping a client, especially in youth care. These factors can impact on the decision as to whether one is fit for society or not. As a worker you must understand and identify how these factors can shape the client as an individual, and as part of community andfamily groups.Scenario: Patrick is a Sudanese refugee who recently came into your care. Patrick finds it hard to make friends due to cultural differences and appears lonely. He discloses to you that as a Sudanese person, he often receives racist name callings from other clients, which is the reason why he does not like to stay in residential care and absconds often. However, he still shows pride in being Sudanese by putting up the Sudanese flag in his room. Patrick has a hard time at school as he cannot read or write, and instead plays basketball as he refuses to work. As he seems to enjoy basketball, staff enrol Patrick into basketball lessons. Patrick also has a history of drug abuse but refuses to go to health check-ups and is seen to be disengaged to government organisations.2. 3. Questions/TaskPart A: You are in the residential care home and need to create a group activity with the clients which promotescultural safety for Sudanese people. Answer the following questions.1.Design a group activity for Patrick based on this case study and identify what this group activity aims to achieve. (100-200 words)I would design a group activity with Patrick and the other young people of different backgrounds within the facility around basketball. Not only this will be an activity each individual can actively participate in it’s also a common ground and it will help bring the young people together as a team despite their ethical and cultural backgrounds. After the game of basketball,I would ensure the focus of the group will be about learning each other’s differences and being part of the wider community. I would do this so by having a fun talk after the end of the activity where the young people are settled and more attentive to the discussion. 2.Patrick’s social and cultural background has created barriers for him tointegrateinto society. This would lead to Patrick having a significant impact on his learning and ability to judge people and situations and further hindering him from overcoming the situation. Family impact (20 - 50 words)Patrick’s family would be distressed and worried to learn about the trouble and the difficulties facing Patrick. This could have a reciprocal impact on the family and also cause them to stress and be anxious over the situation. Patricks family might also have a direct impact from the situations facing Patrick in their own lives. Community impact (20 -50 words)Racism has a huge impact in the community. Racism divides people and separates the community to an unhealthy state.
