ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 1
INTRODUCTION
economy development meant to acquire and develop new area and harness its resources. If an
area is not developed, it leads to depletion of resources. according to Cunningham (2005)
development is based on: rise in populace, change in infrastructure and contamination which has
led to change in mindset. The Clipper Bay has a population of 5000 with three generations that
has a lot of potential to grow the region and their main source of livelihood is fishing and they
have rich cultural heritage. Given a budget of $50M to be used to develop to uplift the region and
bring forth sound developments in sustainable manner while conserving the environment of the
region and to provide employment for the growing population. The process of growing the
region is so hard but it comes with a lot of benefits like increased interaction, revenues, increased
incomes, increased in business activities and increased cultural preservation.
APPROACH TO DEVELOPMENT.
APPROACH THROUGH CONSULTATION
Taking into account the need of economic development of an area, we need to develop the area
based on those needs while keeping the culture of the community from decline.it is therefore
necessary to plan the development of the area in a sustainable manner. This will be done by
elevating roads, businesses and information technology. If this is done, it will change the area a
great deal. Barber (2003)
A very good and sustainable approach is necessary through planning and involvement of the
local residents and other stakeholders.
1. Shared Dream: vision of development should be shared among different relevant
stakeholders like community, government and business men and other interested group.
2. Group leaders: this will hasten the level of development set they are the one with
knowledge of the area and can therefore plan well on development issues and can
overcome the problems during implementation
3. Partnership: groups that intend to make partnership companies and private sector should
all come on board.
4. Public participation: they should involve locals and other interested parties.

Existing development will only need to be marketed and advertised to develop it further
whereas the new industry need all steps to come to the developed state. skilled labor and
the unskilled one differs in production as follows, skilled can earn 10 items an hour while
the unskilled can earn 5 items when trained through CBA as shown.
Industry Items/hrs. items/day 10hrs
Fishing 10 100
Farming 5 50
It is noted that fishing brings a lot of revenue than farming and this was promoted during
planning stage
b. Sustainable approach to tourism
Concept of seasonal and off seasonal approaches comes enduring seasonal approach, beach
tourist and fresh fishes and festivals are promoted, this brings in a lot of revenues during
summer while off season approach includes hiking and access of the local markets and this
happen on winter. Incomes from this activity are reused in the development of the region so
that tourism can be self-sustaining.
The Clipper Bay has an environment that is varied, that is it has an ocean and forest. Ocean
protects the marine life while the forest protects wild animals, this one therefore will promote
the concept of sustainable form of tourism in the region while promoting development at the
same time (Leipzig Charter, 2007)
In the ideas of Dave Stein (2005) for the development of the economy in an area, below
processes should emphasize on human activities, lives of people, culture and natural
resources preservation
1: human: It involves infrastructural developments i.e. carpeting, reorganizing or designing it
afresh and putting up new one all together like constructing new ones and setting up of new
houses.it also involves cultural heritage restoration. All this will attract tourist. Brown, C
