Effects of Air Pollutants on Changing World
Particulate Matter and Related Pollutants in a Changing
World
Introduction
The health status of humans depends on the quality of the air they breathe in, among other
factors. The atmosphere in its purest forms is the basics of healthy life both to humans and
animals. Research has shown that the major contributing factor in air pollution from
industrialization of the fast-evolving world. Prolonged exposure to these toxic substances affects
the health condition of humans most so to the larger population that settles around industrial
parks. Inhalation of poisonous gases affects the human breathing systems and body organs such
as the trachea, heart, and lungs hence causing diseases such as lung cancer and breathing
problems which deteriorate an individual's health condition.
Research question
In order to have a clear understanding of the environmental dynamics and to adapt to future
changes, environmental health practitioners need to have updated information on the challenges
associated with global changes, to protecting human health and its surrounding environment.
This presentation address the question of how adverse is the health impact of particulate matter
and air pollutants to human health. Therefore the research question in relation to PICO: are
Australian people living in the suburbs of industrial parks (P) has prolonged exposure to PM (I)
than those who lives in rural areas (C) hence are more vulnerable to respiratory complications

Research literature
World Health Organizations showed that particulate matter pollutant causes approximately
800,000 premature deaths annually. According to recent statistics ranked PM, as the 12th leading
cause of mortality global, thus PM pollutants requires cognitive attention and robust strategies
for its reduction from the atmosphere (Elliott et al., 2019). Particulate Matter constitutes of tiny
particles and fluid droplets containing organic chemicals, acids, soil, dust and metal particles.
Since they are tiny, they are easily carried in the air, and when humans breathe in, they find their
way into a human's breathing system, thus altering the breathing process (Liu et al., 2017).
Medical experimentations’ have established that cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases are
caused by inhalation of particulate matter in by a mechanism of systematic inflammation,
coagulation, and systematic translocation into the circulation system.
The particulate matter effects the trachea systems are mostly experienced when the patient has
long time exposure to fine particulate matter. Hence causing a substantial cardiovascular incident
on a patient that could eventually lead to mortality. On the other hand, short-time exposure also
leads to slight complications, thus increasing the rate of cardiovascular events within the body,
then within a few days’ results to more complications. When comparing the particulate effects on
cardiovascular effects and cerebrovascular effects. It's established that the effects are not as
extreme in cerebrovascular as it is with cardiovascular complications (Blomberg et al., 2019).
The adverse effects of these substances are morbidity, oxidative stress, and lung inflammation
and pulmonary anatomic. From the literature, symptoms of the impact of particulate matter are
