ABC Examining recruitment process at EA
1. Research Question
The main research question is that is the current recruitment process for the cadet pilots in
Emirates Airlines effective?
1.1Background to the Research question
Emirates is one of the leading airlines in the world. The success of the company is based on
the level of customer satisfaction. Customers are satisfied when the service is good, when
they are treated well during their journey and when the ride is smooth, without any delays or
cancellations. So, the satisfaction of the customers is directly related with the behaviour and
conduct of the employees of the company (Ullah, 2015). But, if the employees specially the
pilots are observed to have a high rate of attrition, then there is definitely something wrong
with the recruitment process of the company. Either they are no able to select the right
people, or they are not able to retain them. Therefore, the effectiveness of the recruitment
process of the cadet pilots in EA needs to be examined. The research will be beneficial for
the company as it will be able to know the shortcomings in the process, it will be able to
implement the correct process accordingly. Also, the research will propose some of the
valuable recommendations for the company which will enable the Emirates Airlines in
improving its process. Also, the other airlines can also follow the proposed recommendations
or the best practices.
1.2 Research Objectives
This research aims to fulfil the following objectives:
1. To examine current recruitment process for cadet pilot
2. To compare the current recruitment practices with a model of best practice
3. To seek opinion of currently recruited cadet pilot on process of recruitment with the
help of a survey.

4. To make recommendation to improve the process
1.3 Justification for your choice of Research topic
The people and the staff of the company are the backbone for the customer satisfaction. It is
important for the recruitment process of Emirates Airlines to be very good and effective. With
the initiation of hiring of the right people, the entire health of the organisation improves
(ZHANG, 2016). Thus, it is very important to evaluate the effectiveness of the process of
recruitment and identify the shortcomings of the process. The customer satisfaction is directly
related to the performance of the employees. Since the size of the organisation is very big,
therefore, the staff requirements are also big. When the recruitment process for the cadet
pilots in EA will be understood, then the process can be improved for the benefit of the entire
organisation.

2. Methodology
2.1 Research Approach taken
This research is deductive because it aims to test a particular theory. There are well-
established theories related to recruitment practices and there are best practices which are
already there in the industry (Clark, 2014). So, the current research will test and apply those
theories and concepts in the current research. The research will look at the empirical
investigation because the knowledge for the research will be gained by the means of direct
observation like by conducting the surveys and the indirect observation will be gained with
the help of reviewing the literature. The approach that will be adopted here will be a mix of
the survey approach and the review of the literature review that will help in developing a case
for the airlines.
2.2 Secondary Research.
a. Internal data that will be used here is the annual report of the company that
will help in determining the staff of cadet pilots who joined the company and
left it and other human resource information will also obtained from the
website of the company and its previous annual reports.
b. External data that will be used in the research will be obtained from the texts,
journals, government statistics, newspaper articles and internet references.
The sources will be valid and it will be ensured that they relate to the
company. All the sources will be cited at the end of the paper along with the
name of author, the date of publication, the title etc.

2.3 Primary Research
(a) Surveys- This will be done to estimate and to determine the HR conditions in the
organization so that the research can be completed. For example, when the reasons for
the attrition will be identified in the survey, then the recruitment process can be
evaluated (Bryman, 2015).
(b) Observation- This will be done to get an idea about the way in which the process is
carried out in the company. Also, this will help in evaluating the application of ethical
principles during the recruitment process.
2.4 Primary Research Data Collection Plan
For the collection of data, the first step is to select a sample. Sampling is required so that the
entire population can be represented with a set of people who will have the same attributes as
that of the entire population. For example, if a survey of 1000000 people need to be done,
then it is very difficult to collect their responses and approach them, therefore, a groups of
people from that population is selected like 100-200 people who represents the ideas,
thoughts, values, beliefs, preferences etc. of the entire population. Census is not possible in
case of these kinds of research topics because in a census, each and every component of the
population has to respond to the questionnaire and every person is taken under consideration
while conducting the survey. Since, it takes a lot of time, effort and money, therefore, iit is not
possible to include all the people under this study. Though with the help of census, the data
which is collected is very valuable, reliable and valid but sampling is generally used as it is a
survey of the small sub set of the population.
In the present study, the non-probability sampling will be used where there will not be any
sampling frame and it will completely rely on the judgement. The non-probability will be
done using the quota sampling where the assembled sample will have the same proportion of
people as in the entire population with respect to the known characteristics, traits or any

focussed phenomenon. The criteria for fixing the quota will be: cadet pilots of EA who have
joined the company in last 5 years. This will help in determining the latest issues that they
faced during the recruitment.

3.2 Risk Management
Risk Identification:
Unit 8: HND Business (Management) Business Project 2017
Page 9 of 13
Document Page
ABC Examining recruitment process at EA
1. The data may not be collected in the required amount.
2. The analysis may fail to satisfy the objectives.
3. The project completion may take longer time than expected.
4. The costs may be more than what is budgeted for the completion of this project.
Risk Analysis:
Probability Medium Critical
Low- 3 High-1, 2,4
Impact
For the 1st, 2nd and 4th risks, the probability is low but the impact is high. For the 3rd risk, the
probability is low and the impact is also low because even if the project does not get
completed on time, there is no loss to the company.
Therefore, the risk analysis shows that the overall risk is not very critical for this project.
Risk mitigation:
1. The survey will be sent at the very initial stage so that even if people take longer to
respond, the project gets completed on time.
2. The data will be analysed for the initial sample of 10 people so that if the analysis is
not satisfactory, the approach can be altered.
3.3 Quality Management
Standards to be adopted:
1. The research will be purely ethical. The data collection and analysis will be ethical and
no governance issues will arise.

2. The research will focus on fulfilling the objectives and there will be no other aim that
will be focussed on.
3. The good quality, valuable and implementable recommendations will be made for EA.
Techniques to review and monitor your progress and evaluate outcomes, etc.:
1. The objectives will be well-defined and they will be reviewed from time to time so
that the path is not deviated.
2. The quantity and the quality of work output will be measured.
3. The checkpoints will be made and accordingly the timelines and the implementation
plans will be modified.
3.4 Statement of Assumptions / Problems / Limitations
The assumption that is made in this project is that the cadet pilots will be willing to respond to
the questionnaires and their responses will be genuine and worth analysing.
The problem that could be faced here is that the cadet pilots may be dis-satisfied with the
policies of company and they may answer all the questions on a negative scale, without
determining the content of the question or its relevance.

4. Code of Ethics
1. The autonomy and the welfare of the people of EA will be respected and the goal will
be to help the organisation in improving its recruitment process. The personal goals
will not supersede the goals of the research.
2. The transparency of the research will be maintained with the professor, with the
participants’ ad with the general public. The aims and implications of the research will
be communicated to all well in advance.
3. The misuse of any position will not happen during the research and the highest
possible level of quality will be aspired for.
4. The data analysis will be genuine and relate to the objectives of the research.
