EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE2 Emotional intelligence mainly deals with understanding oneself to be able to understand other people. Emotional intelligence has four fundamental aspects that help in understanding oneself and they include; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. The four aspects play a critical role in ensuring that I know myself better to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses effectively. Managers need to possess the high emotional intelligence to understand subordinates and lead them effectively to achieve the goals of the organization(Obradovic, Jovanovic, Petrovic, Mihic, & Mitrovic, 2013). Self-assessment is vital in emotional intelligence as it gives results of how someone fairs according to the four critical aspects of emotional intelligence. This reflection is written to gauge my emotional intelligence self-assessment. I agree with the results but not to a higher extent as I feel that I should have scored more on the self-management as I feel that I do well when it comes to self-assessment. For self-awareness which is the core aspect of emotional intelligence, I performed well and I agree with the results. The social
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE3 awareness aspect I expected to score highly as I have good interactive skills which enable me to fit in different social interactions. Relationship management I scored fairly and I completely agree with the results. From the results of the self-assessment test, I have learned that my self-awareness is greatand I know myself better. This translates to the fact that I am self-confident and my self-esteem is high. Self- awareness also means I know my strengths and limitations and this is helpful as I know my weaknesses and from there I can put measures to eliminate my limitations. Being self-aware also helps to avoid disappointment as I set targets which I know I can achieve(Obradovic, Jovanovic, Petrovic, Mihic, & Mitrovic, 2013). From the results, my self-management aspect is below average and this means my self-control is not good and controlling my emotions is difficult and I cannot hide my emotions when there is a need to do so especially when making decisions. The results also suggest I am not adaptable and I take long to adjust to new experiences and this is a bad aspect as organizations keep on evolving and changing and I am not flexible enough to accommodate the changes. Low self-management also can means that I am not honest and I have low integrity and that is not one of the characteristics of a good leader in any organization(Shooshtarian, Ameli, & Amini Lari, 2013). From the test results, I am not initiative and from the articles which I have read, poor initiative means I cannot seize opportunities when they arise and if I cannot do so, the organization will not thrive due to not exploiting the available opportunities which arise. Social awareness helps me to fit effectively in different social situations as from the test results I have above average rating. According to different authors of organization behavior, high social awareness means I have high social skills which enable me to adjust myself to fit in different situations and also care about the needs of others(Batool, 2013). My relationship management skills are average meaning that I can inspire and motivate people in the organization to achieve their targets. This is achieved by having a positive attitude, good communication, and persuasive skills to convince other people to perform better in the organization. The self-assessment has pointed out the areas which I need to improve on to improve my professional practice. I should work on my self-management aspect to improve my self-control and be able to control my emotions to make good decisions that are not influenced by emotions(Pinos, Twigg, Parayitam, & Olson, 2013). I should also learn how to be adaptive to be flexible to changes that occur in a dynamic business environment. I should also attend training sessions to learn how to be
