Task Instructions
Summary and Purpose of Assessment
This assessment is to ensure you can deal with different and difficult ethical interpreting situations
that you will likely to face in real life, and to ensure that you can make right decisions taking all the
aspects available to you into account.
There are two (2) parts to this assessment:
Part 1 – Scenario Analysis
Part 2 – Activity Report
Assessment Instructions
Part 1
Read the scenarios provided in the Part 1 template and answer the questions involving professional
ethical issues. You are required to reflect on your interpreting practice and apply your knowledge
of relevant ethical codes and standards. The template is provided below, and you are to submit
your completed work to CANVAS. (Appendix 1)
Part 2
The following activities are listed in your template for Part 2:
Activity 1 – Research Code of Ethics
Activity 2 – Self contemplation
Activity 3 – Interview two (2) professional practising interpreters
Activity 4 – Professional Development
Conduct and complete the activities listed in template for Part 2 and provide a response to all the
questions as instructed.

Read the requirements for satisfactory completion below, and then answer the related questions in
both parts. Type your responses into the space provided below each question.
In developing responses to the questions, conduct research, consider your learnings from the
assessment task and contact practicing interpreters if required.
This assessment will be completed outside of class.
How to respond. The requirements for satisfactory completion are that:
You submit typed (not hand-written) responses
You respond using complete sentences, making direct reference to the question
You answer all questions using full sentences (not dot points).
You address all parts of each question
You use your own words—when occasionally quoting information from another source, you
must acknowledge that source.
Each response is at least 50 words long.

You will be assessed against the criteria listed in the marking guide in Section B of this task. To
achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.

Your Part 2 template can be found in Appendix 2.
Conditions for assessment
[ Ethical application

1. This assessment is to be completed individually, outside class time.
2. You must answer all questions and is to be submitted on Canvas before the submission date
specified.
3. Your assessor will assess your submitted report. They will contact you if any information is
missing and you will have 24 hours to provide the missing documentation for assessment.
4. This is an open ‘book’ assessment. You can access websites and other resources for
information, legislation etc. to respond to the questions.
5. All submissions must meet the criteria to the standard described in the marking guide in
Section B to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment
6. You must answer all questions correctly to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment
7. You will be assessed as satisfactory or not satisfactory
8. Please make arrangements with your coordinator at least one week prior to the assessment
due date if you feel you require adjustment to the assessment of any part of this task.
9. Where an extension of greater than seven days is needed, you must apply for special
consideration.
10. If you have an equitable assessment arrangement which provides for negotiation of
submission dates, extensions of more than seven days may be considered.
11. If you don’t meet the criteria for the task, you will be provided with one opportunity to
resubmit the report.
12. You can appeal the assessment decision according to the RMIT Assessment Processes.
