This report discusses the influence of health and social care values on care delivery, including privacy, confidentiality, anti-discrimination, independence, and rights. It also explores the principles of safeguarding service users, such as empowerment, prevention, proportionality, protection, partnership, and accountability. INTRODUCTION
Health and social care are concerned with treatment of ill health and medical conditions
in hospital and health care centre as well as in community. Social care refers to care and support
that is provided to vulnerable people especially in society or community. This report will discuss
about principles of support they are implemented for health and social care practices and will
also discuss impact of government policies legislation and regulation code of practices and
standard of practice. Later report will also discuss delivery of health and social care practices that
include different theories such as person centred and holistic care. Report will contextualise
Brierley Hill Health & Social Care Centre.
Task 1
1.1 How health and social care values influence care delivery
Health and social care values refers to guidelines on the basis of health and social care
services should be provided to service users. Health and social care values and their influence on
care delivery is as follows-
Privacy- This is a value in which individuals getting health and social care are free from all
kinds of intrusion in their affairs. (Filipe, Renedo and Marston, 2017). This also ensures that care
plans of people are also made considering this value in Brierley Hill Health & Social Care
Centre.
Confidentiality- This is another value for health and social care and this is concerned with
maintaining confidentiality of health and social care users. This ensures that service users’
information is safe and information is shared only for purpose of service user or organisation.
Anti-discrimination- This is concerned with ensuring that everyone regardless of characteristics
such as gender, age, disability receives best care services. This makes very positive and
favourable influence on care delivery as all patients get best care and along with this, patients

also become confident that they are getting best treatment from their service providers in
Brierley Hill Health & Social Care Centre.
Independence- This is another important value as per which clients or service users are enabled
so that they can act independently (Armstrong and Mullins, 2017). This is an important value as
per which service providers can ensure that their services are aimed at enabling service users for
acting independently. This ensures that service users are capable for self-care and mobility which
is ultimate aim of service in some situations.
Rights- This value for health and care service includes considering rights of citizenship for
health and social care users are ensured by care providers. This makes positive influence on care
delivery and enables care providers to understand that their services should not affect citizenship
rights of care takers.
1.2 Principles of safeguarding service users
Empowerment- Empowerment is concerned with supporting and encouraging people to make
their own decisions and informed consent. This is one of the principles of safeguarding and
focuses on including individuals being treated in decisions that are taken for their health and
social care services. Empowering and enabling service users contribute in safeguarding.
Prevention- Prevention is another important principle of safeguarding and is concerned with
preventing health before any harm occurs (Cooper and Bruin, 2017). In other words the principle
of prevention is concerned with prevention rather than fixing things after they have caused
damage. This principle safeguards service users and their health.
Proportionality- This is another principle of safeguarding service users and these principles
excludes what can be least intrusive response for a situation in correlation with the risk
associated. In other words this principle and that ensuring that life of patient is least affected by
accurately assessing the risk associated with providing healthcare services by Brierley Hill
Health & Social Care Centre.
Protection- Principle of protection is another important principle to safeguard service users and
this principle underpins complete concept of safeguarding adults and is concerned with
supporting adults who are vulnerable in best possible way. As per this principle health care

providers are expected to understand what they are required to do concern with well being and
safety of individuals and ways in which care providers can protect them.
Partnership- Partnership is another principle of safeguarding service users and this principle is
concerned with collaborating with local communities. In this partnership principle provide how
Brierley Hill Health & Social Care Centre should share information with community and other
organisations. This includes that care providers along with charities and organisations should
teach local people about how to prevent, detect and report abuse.
Accountability- This is last principal for safeguarding care uses and this principle outline that
safeguarding is duty of everyone and everyone who comes in contact with vulnerable patient
should be responsible for identifying and noting any possible risk they have (Six Principles of
Adult Safeguarding, 2021). In this care providers in social workers have key responsibility to
identify potential harm for vulnerable patients but at the same time this is the responsibility of
doctors relative and anyone else coming in contact with care users.
Task 2
2.1 Piece of government legislation in health and social care and its influence on practice
Government has developed several rules and regulations and legislations for health and
social care to ensure safety and protection of care users. Among these different rules and
regulations Health and Social Care Act 2012 is one of the fees of legislation for health and social
care. Health and Social Care Act 2012 is an act of the parliament of UK that provides most
expensive reorganization of structure of National Health Services. Health and Social Care Act
2012 includes different duties for health bodies or organisations including department of health,
Public Health England, clinical commissioning groups and NHS England.
This outlines responsibilities of different parties and Brierley Hill Health & Social Care
Centre associated with health and social care services (Allen and et.al., 2017). This act outlines
duties of clinical commissioning group for commissioning certain Health Services and also
provides some powers to required Board to Commission certain health services. In addition to
this act outlines regulations to be exercised by local authorities of certain public health functions
and regulations to be exercised of functions by the board of clinical commissioning group.

This act and different elements of the act has important effect on healthcare practices.
This is because this outlines rights and duties of different parties involved and on the basis of this
they are able to make right decisions with the legal criteria. On the basis of different
responsibilities outlined in the Act patients also get most appropriate and suitable care services
(O'Driscoll, 2018). This also provide a framework for health inequalities and on the basis of this
care providers have to ensure that they provide equal services to all care users regardless of their
age gender and disabilities. Overall this act helps in improving quality of care and prepositions
the mode of provision so that health service becomes patient-centred and facilitates their choices.
2.2 How codes of practice influence professional practice
Codes of practice have very important influence on professional practice. This is because
code of practice determines actions that professionals take while practicing their roles and duties.
Code of practice ensures that every individual perform their duties in a way that is uniform for
providing healthcare service. Some of the codes of health and social care and their influence on
professional practice includes-
Listening to people and responding to concern and preferences of clients- This means that
everyone is required to listen to people who are using services and in addition to this they are
also required to respond to concern and preferences of clients (Li and et.al., 2018). Influence that
this service has is that service providers require to involve service users in different decisions
regarding their health care service.
Understanding legislation regarding mental capacity and making individual main focus for
decisions- This is another important code of practice and influence of this is that all the
professionals require having adequate knowledge of legislations regarding mental capacity. In
addition this, this code also ensures that individuals or service users gets specialised services as
per their requirement.
Task 3
3.1 Person-centred care and its role in holistic care
Person-centred care is concerned with treating a person and providing healthcare services
to person with dignity and respecting and involving patients in all decisions that are related to

their health (Liz Burton, 2018). This approach of providing healthcare services is person-centred
care and this service is linked with healthcare rights of person. In other words, person-centred
care keeps patients in centre and some ways through which patients are included in care includes
treating with dignity, compassion and respect to patients and tailoring the care as per needs of
person or patient and supporting patients to learn and understand their health. Holistic care is
concerned with providing care to patients with in-depth understanding of patients and their
different needs regarding care. Holistic care also is about satisfaction of patients with care and
supporting them in understanding and accepting self-responsibility. This also involves better
understanding of the effects of illness on responses of patients. During the times of illness or
disease patients’ psychological, cultural and social needs also get disturbed and get negatively
affected and holistic care treats complete person including their mind, body and spirit.
This discussion regarding person-centred care and holistic care outlines that person-
centred care is about centralising people in their healthcare and holistic care is about providing
all kinds of quality care services to patients. Patient-centred care plays very important role in
holistic care as it enhances quality of care services for patients. This is because patients are
helped in understanding their condition and patients have better knowledge and understanding of
their health and their input in care improves quality of services (Mills, 2017). In addition to this
person-centred care also improves experience of people receiving care services. This also play an
important role as person-centred care encourages people to live healthy life style and this is very
important element of holistic care of patients.
3.2 Issues of social isolation and exclusion in service users and how professionals can help to
overcome these
Social isolation can be defined as state in which there is least or no contact with society.
In other words, social isolation is concerned with non-participation of individual in mainstream
institute of society. Social exclusion is concerned with a situation in which individuals are denied
various rights, opportunities or resources that are normally available to people in a society and
are fundamental for social integration (Currie and Szabo, 2020). Some of the forms in which
social exclusion takes place include education, healthcare, employment, housing, and democratic
participation.

Issues of social isolation and exclusion include depression, anxiety, substantial abuse, as
well as physical issues like high blood pressure, heart diseases and diabetes and in addition to
this it also increases of dementia in older people. Along with this social isolation can also cause
premature death of a person because of different issues and negative effect of mental and
physical health of individual.
Social isolation creates and gives rise of different mental as well as physical issues for
individual and these issues can be overcome with help of professionals. This includes taking help
from healthcare professionals regarding issues like different types of illness caused because of
social isolation and exclusion. They can help with healthcare services and in addition to this
professionals can also help them by providing help to deal with different mental issues. This
means that social isolation and exclusion along with creates issues regarding health also has
impact on mental health of people and professionals in mental health and psychological help in
overcoming these issues (Greer and et.al., 2019). Some of the ways in which professionals can
help in overcoming issues of self isolation and exclusion includes encouraging individuals for
self-care and self-compassion. In addition to this helping and supporting people in making time
for practicing for mental health is also included in support of professionals.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above discussion it can be concluded that health and social care values
have very positive effect and influence or care delivery. In addition to this there are different
principles that can safeguard service users and these were discussed in report. Later, report
discussed about impact of health and social care act on practices of healthcare along with code of
practices influencing professional practice. Later, report discussed person centred care and its
role in holistic care and as discussed it can be concluded that including patient in their care can
improve their experience and quality of care being delivered to patients.
