The HIV virus which is
basically the Human Immuno-
deficiency virus is a subtype of
the retro virus category.
The virus infects the human
body and causes a medical
condition which leads to the
severe weakening of the
immune system of the body.
This condition is explained as
the development of Acquired
Immuno Deficiency Syndrome
or AIDS.

The viral Genome:
The causative agent of AIDS is
the HIV virus
The HIV virus is round in
structure
It comprises of two single
strands of RNA
The outer covering of the virus
is known as the envelope
The envelope comprises of a
protein which is known as
gp120 and by virtue of this
protein, it attaches itself to the
CD4 receptor that is present on
the host cell (Kulpa & Chomont,
2015).
Inside the envelope is the viral
matrix that comprises of the
important enzymes that help
the virus to replicate inside the
host cell.

Symptoms
Initial symptoms include:
Pain in muscle and joints
Persistent fever
Inflammation in the glands
Throat infection
Feeling of fatigue and weakness
Development of rashes
Continuous headache
