INTRODUCTION
Home-based child care refers as a early childhood education whereas care providers pay
attention on children in their home, often takes supports from their assistant. Currently Working
with child becomes skill-based job that helps to understand needs and issues of children and
builds a string bond with children. There are various benefits of home-based care such as
children feel like home and do things which they like the most. Home-based childcare setting is
generally organized in the most of play schools so that teachers can give home like environment
to the children and makes them learn number of good habits which improves their brains. Thus,
home-based childcare setting is essential for the children development. This report will discuss
about varieties of skills, attributes and behaviours that requires to lead and manage a home-based
childcare setting. Then further will discuss about various roles and responsibilities of home-
based childcare while leading and managing setting.
MAIN BODY
Determine the skills, attributes and behaviours that requires to lead and manage a home-based
childcare setting
Home-based childcare setting is not easier task for the anyone because it requires large
number of skills and effective behaviour and attributes to lead a child in right direction and
manages their activities on right platform (Werner and et.al., 2016). So, home-based childcare is
become professional job. To get this job requires number of skills, characteristics and effective
behaviours. There are number of skills such as good communication skills, emergency training,
patience, positive attitude and child development knowledge etc. are important skills that must
posses by caregivers. For example, when caregiver has good communication skills then they can
direct communicate with children either they are small in age and size or physical appearance is
bigger but brain knowledge is small due to deformities (Albrecht and Khetani, 2017). There are
various children with disability or mental retardation who requires extra supports as compared
normal children.
So, it is required that caregivers must have effective communication skills because when
they have good communication skills then they can direct communicate with such children and
can supports them to improve their brain capabilities effectively. Another is positive attitude that

plays essential in individuals’ life. For example, when child caregivers keep positive attitude
then they always try to give their best performance either all efforts are reductant. With the
positive attitude caregivers can appreciate such children who have physical or mental disability
to do things as they like the most. Children’s with small age requires more supports and
appreciation from others or parents and when they do not get such supports that brigs
demotivation in their mind and they start up to feel socially excluded (Stone and Bryant, 2019).
Another is patience that is highly important skills for the caregivers because when they have
good patience level then they can negotiate children to take new initiatives weather they are
failed or win. Caregivers must posses’ nurturing personality that helps to build string bond with a
child. for example, when child is separated from mother, in that situation they feel more fear. If
caregiver has nurturing personality then they can make children feel of safety and comfort and
they can learn children how to leave with other ones effectively in the absence of native or
parents. With nurturing personality care providers cannot take place of the children’s mother but
can support them to feel better while he is in day care (Ang, Brooker and Stephen, 2017).
Caregivers should have knowledge about fist aid, CPR, chocking etc. within day care workplace
because it often happen when children is choked by having unwanted things then there can
become chance of chocking, in that situation care givers can practices CPR or chocking method
to remove obstacle from mouth until medical services does not arrive. Thus, care providers must
have knowledge of such scary situations.
Care providers should have at least two qualifications in English and Maths that
comprises into functional skills (Sonnenschein and Sun, 2017). These qualifications are highly
important for the child providers because when they have such qualification then they can learn
to small children about basic English and Math. Another qualification is Paediatric First Aid that
is highly required for the child providers. Such qualification can achieve by online courses
whereas gives training session in the local areas and understand caregivers how to give first aid
whenever child stuck into emergency situations. Social skills are also required by childcare
centres in a ideal child givers because when they have such skills then they can communicate
with children’s parents more effectively and can ensures them their child is more safe in the care
house. To remove parents’ concerns requires that care providers must communicate with them
regular basis for giving overview of children’s activities which they did in whole day. Apart
from this, caregivers must have knowledge about multiple language so that they can

communicate with outsider agencies like social services, speech and language therapist when
child needs additional care or helps as compared normal children. Care givers must have
imagination and creative skills. The reason behind is that when caregivers’ posses’ such skills
then they can influence children to be creative and critical thinker from childhood age. With
these skills caregivers can create number of tasks as opportunity for the children that will
develop problem-solving in children. In the young age children are in the habbit of observing
things which is happening around them and observes all information. So, it is the best option for
the caregiver to keep young child fully engaged in activities such as to ask questions from
children related to work. It develops their mind and make them more critical thinkers from young
age. Otherwise caregivers can ask open ended questions that will improve their understanding
level and advance their learning opportunities and develops empathy skill in children (Pearce and
Dollman, 2019).
From the above discussion can be analysed that child caregivers must have effective
skills, behaviours and attributes then they become capable to lead and manage children
effectively at home-based care setting.
Roles and responsibilities of home-based child carer while leading and managing a setting
There are numerous roles and responsibilities of home-based child carers that they
performed at the workplace. For example, primary responsibility of child carers is to give care to
children i.e. setting schedule and routines, feeding, grooming, changing diapers and cleaning
toys and rooms daily basis. Home-based care setting must provide such care services for the
children so that their parents are live concern free (Bromer and Korfmacher, 2017). If child carer
does not provide such care then children does not like to be at day carer and organization cannot
develop brain of children effectively. Child carer is responsible to develop skills in children. It is
another responsibility of child carer whereas they must develop and influence age-appropriate
learning and socialization in individuals that ensures that children learn basic skills like
communication, sharing and manners. These skills are generally developed by parents in their
children to provide understanding that how to communicate with other people and encourages
them to share their feeling with them as well as teaches them significance of manner while
talking, sitting, eating and others. So, it is a duty of child carer to develop such skills in children
at home-based child care houses.

To maintain safety at the workplace is another crucial responsibility of child carer that they
provide to monitor children for their health, behaviour and emotional issues then they
communicate with staff members and their parents regrading children issues. The reason behind
is that young age children faces various type of issues like problem in speaking, walking,
response on somethings due to physical and emotional obstacles. So chid carer must look after
children and their activities so that can determine they are like normal child or not. To report
children’s parents and staff members about child issues is essential for the child carer because
when children’s parents has first priority to know about their children issue. Home-based child
carer also posses’ such ability to influence interest of children by involving into art, music, sports
and other essential hobbies. Such activities will develop child career and keeps them on right
track from initial stage. Child carer has primary role to learn children about positive behaviours
and gives them guidance to follow all discipline effectively (Heidari, Gissandaner and Silovsky,
2018). Discipline is highly important for the children because it gives understanding between
wrong and right. If a child completes all works within discipline from initial stage that makes
their personality more productive and creates positive attitude in them. So, child carers must
learn children to be live in discipline.
Another role of the home-based child carer is to prepare young age children to for the
nest level of care such as school. It is important for the children because school is quite different
from home-base care centres. So, it is a responsibility of the child carer to learn children how to
behave with others and how greet their teachers within school. Such learning develops good
behaviour in individuals and makes them learn how to give respect others (Graaf and Snowden,
2017). Child carer must work with parents to support children development towards behavioural
and educational goal. it is essential duty of home-based child carer to set care of child
accordingly their parents. To conduct childcare operations requires licence that allows to give
care to the young children. If child carer has passion for education then this opportunity plays
effective role in the live of child under it’s care. With this opportunity child carers can directly
impact on child’s growth and development positively by introducing number of brain storming
games and activities. Such games and activities develop creativity skills and prepares them better
for school when they become aged enough to attend school independently.

supports children to set goal for their life at initial stage. Such care learns children how to behave
with others and parents at different place. When child carers practice all roles and responsibilities
effectively while leading child that leads effectiveness in their learning and develops number of
skills to manage things at their level. Thus, small business owners can implements all roles and
responsibilities onto workplace which improves standard of business and ensures parents about
their children career.

There are number of sources that supports home-based child carer to long run it’s
business in it’s market effectively.
Local safeguarding board
Local safeguarding board is the best option for them home-based child carer that support
to take all legal action to run child care business more effectively (Hooper, 2017). To safe and
promote welfare of the child formulates number of policies by the local safeguarding board. The
main goal of the policy is to protect children from ill treatment as well as prevents children’s
health impairment or development. Such policies ensure that children are grown up in
environment with high provision of safety and effective care as well. This source can support
home-based child carer to build standard of organization effectively. Child cares can keep child
protection policies and practices them daily basis which keeps children’s parents concern free
regarding children safety.
Local children centres
Home-based child carer can take support from local children’s centres. The main goal of
the children centres is to develop children for school readiness. Child carer can take advice from
such children’s centres to develop child more effectively so that they can enable to go school
independently (Ridings, Beasley and Silovsky, 2017). With the local children centres supports
child carer can learn to different type of children’s and develops their interest towards social and
educational behaviours. Local children centres conduct number of child care program in which
includes number of activities related to child care. So, child carer can involve in such program to
learn how develop structure schedule and school like or home like environment. Such skills

environment more effective. Home-based child carer can take support from local council in the
context of child care like to maintain feeding schedule of each child that will support to analyse
that how much nutrition’s are feeding by individuals in their foods (Schaack, Le and Messan
Setodji, 2017). Local council mainly emphasizes on children’s nutrition, health, child
development was and wash because these are major parameters to ensure that child is grown up
in good environment. Child development wash means age appropriate play games and effective
communication for the children. So, it is primary of duty of home-based child carer to create
such environment whereas children learn number of skills like communication and other
activities itself. This phase prepares children for the next level such as school. While health
parameter denotes on children’s health such as immunization, growth monitoring, prior care
during illness and uses effective oral dehydration solution during loose motions. Such incidents
are quite common in young age children so it is essential for the child carer to keeps such
facilities in the workplace so that caregivers can give them appropriate service.

keep key considerable policies and protection then organization can execute it’s business
smoothly in it’s business environment. While above discussed sources will support carers to
maintain standards of the home-based childcare business.
CONCLUSION
The brief study has provided understanding about home-based childcare setting that it
supported children to discover their interest by introducing music, sports and other activities.
Such activities helped to lead child in right direction and sets their primary goals of the life. This
report has been summarized different skills, behaviours and attributes that required in the
caregivers. This report has discussed that caregivers must have social skills and other functionals
skills then they enable to communicate with outsider agencies regrading extra care of child. the
brief study has been concluded different roles and responsibilities in the child carers to run their
business smoothly in it’s sector. It also has been analysed about different sources such as banks,
local council, family & friends and govt. that supported to home-based child carer.
