Introduction
The primary aim of the paper is to analyze the case study on Enterprise Resource Planning systems
(ERPs) implementation by Comp Group. It will present the purpose and scope of ERPs given in the case
study. It will also explain the ERPs techniques and tools to mitigate the business needs. The paper will
also evaluate the ERP implementation approach that will be beneficial for the company to satisfy the
business and consumer needs. Moreover, it will also analyze various change management activities
adopted by the company to execute its business appropriately. Furthermore, the paper will recommend
strategies that will prove to be beneficial for the company to enhance its business operations within the
global market.
Purpose and Scope of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERPs)
The purpose of ERP systems is to assimilate the significant corporate operations by strengthening
relations at different stages to gain competitive benefit. It helps businesses to make appropriate decisions,
improve performance and build strong capabilities. The ERP systems are determined to be an IT
infrastructure that possesses the ability to serve the flow of data amongst different business processes
within an organization (Al-Mashari and Al-Mudimigh, 2003). In the ERP systems, SAP R/3 has emerged
as a foremost leader which is used to re-engineer and optimize the business procedures. For example,
most of the businesses have applied SAP R/3 to develop the reliability of their supply chain.
Moreover, the scope of the ERP systems is to build IT-enabled re-engineering processes which are
determined to be a significant approach used to gain significant improvements in business procedures.
The improvement of ERP systems leads to increased re-engineering processes demand aligned with the
beginning of server or client technologies (De Toni, Fornasier and Nonino, 2015). Within the ERP
systems, SAP R/3 is being implemented which is referred to as an integrated suite of human resources,
quality control, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, and financial application systems. Hence, the case
study analyzed the scope of the ERP systems with the changing IT infrastructure in ConsCo where the
company is required to carry out the initiative of entire re-engineering process to access the IT
infrastructure (Seethamraju, 2015). The case study describes the shift of the CORE projects from
Business process re-engineering (BPR) to functional optimization efforts. Moreover, Comp Group have
decided to minimize the scope of the CORE project in order to pilot the project. On the other hand, based
on the scope of ConsCo implementation of re-engineering with SAP was deliberated to take
approximately 18 months. Therefore, the appropriate adoption of the ERP correspondences has provided
a chance to re-engineer the occupational procedures beyond and within the administrative scope.
Evaluation of implementation approach
This particular case study implements a grounded theory research approach in order to expand the SAP
R/3-allowed occupational procedure in the form of re-engineering context. This helps in developing a
theory for further research (Bansal and Agarwal, 2015). On the other hand, to reduce the data bias and
increase the scope of the study a triangulation approach was implemented. However, the study focused on
significant aspects of failure to demonstrate the followed approach.
Moreover, it can be seen that ConsCo implemented two substitutive IT infrastructure sourcing approaches
in order to enhance the business procedures of the organization. These approaches will help the company
to select a high-quality package and upgrade its current systems. The company has made a comparison of
the possible benefits and risks of the two alternatives. In order to select a high-quality package, ConsCo
preferred to move to an international market that best suited its requirement to serve future trends and
vision (Tarhini et al., 2016). These two approaches are implemented by the company to satisfy the needs
