INTRODUCTION
Human resource management introduces as an effective process of recruiting, selecting,
deploying and managing an enterprise's employees. HRM refers as an effective management
functions that supports business managers to hire, select, train as well as develop members
within an organisation (Noe and et. al., 2017). For this project, chosen organisation is Kingfisher
Plc which is a British multinational retailing company in London, England, United Kingdom.
This report is based on different tasks which includes purpose as well as functions of human
resource management, benefits and drawbacks of recruitment and selection methods. Along with
this various kind of HRM practices and its advantages to employees as well as organisation will
also covered in this project. At last, significance of employee relation and components of
employment legislation will also included in this assignment.
Overview of the organisation: Kingfisher Plc is a British multinational retailer which
headquarter in London, England, UK. It was founded in 1982 by Andy Cosslett, Veronique
Laury. Company mainly specialise in selling and marketing of home improvement products such
as home furnishings, home appliances etc. Main purpose of this organisation is to gain maximum
amount of profitability by providing quality products to the customers at affordable price.

integration, procurement, separation as well as maintenance of human resources within an
organisation (Bratton and Gold, 2017). There are different functions and purpose of human
resource management which is relevant to workforce planning and resourcing of an enterprise is
also. Some are determined as under:
Purpose of HRM: There are different purpose of HRM within a Kingfisher Plc. These purpose
mainly related with staffing, internal customer management, compensation and management,
laws, employee relation, cultural sensitivity, metrics etc. All these are main purpose which will
help an enterprise to retain workers for long time and maximise customer base within a given
time period (Brewster, 2017). Some purpose will defined as detail manner: Employee relation: It is foremost purpose of human resource management as to manage
strong relation with employees. It will help a Kingfisher Plc to accomplish long term

good brand image in marketplace. Staffing: It introduces as main role and responsibility of human resource management is

different laws related with plans of recruitment, advantages as well as conflict resolution

Functions of HRM: There are mainly three types of human resource management functions
which is operative functions, managerial functions and advisory functions. All these type of
functions also have different functions which are determined as under:
Operative functions Compensation and benefits: This introduces as a main and important function of HRM
which is followed by manager of Kingfisher plc. For example: If company can
accomplish its objectives and goals, they can acclimatize innovative ways of giving
advantages to the employees (Cascio, 2015). There are different benefits which are
provided by an organisation to their workforce such as working hour flexibility, dental or
medical insurance, extended vacation etc.
Managerial Functions Planning: This function of HRM is very vital and important to set goals and objectives of
a Kingfisher Plc. In this, procedures and policies of an enterprise is laid down to attain
these goals within given time duration. It is a role of human resource manager of an
organisation is to foresee vacancies, set requirements of job and decide the recruitment
sources. Thus, planning is most essential functions for growth and success of an
organisation.
Advisory Functions
 Top management Advice: Human resource manager is a specialist in HRM functions. In
this function, each employees can advice the upper level administration in formulating
procedures and policies. They can also suggested the upper administration for the
appraisal of manpower which they feel apt.

the priorities and requirement of the organisation. As a employer
emphasis on legislative as well as production. There are

Training and Development In order to manage people and emphasis on their continuous
improvement need to focus on the skill of employees. To provide
training of the employees consider two approaches first one on the

practices have been used by an organisation to retain employees for long time and also maintain
strong relation with them. Along with the, different number of employment legislation have been
followed by an enterprise to improve employees relation and also assist an enterprise to
