INTRODUCTION
Human Resource Management is the most important function of an organisation that
aims at recruiting and selecting the talented and knowledgeable employees who can put their best
efforts in business operations and leads to bring effectiveness (Berman, Bowman, West and Van
Wart, 2019). Kingfisher is a multinational retailing organisation and its headquarter is situated in
London and regional offices are situated in UK. The present report explains different approaches
of recruitment and selection and also its strength and weakness. Different employment
legislation are also discussed and its effects on decision making process.
TASK 1
Human Resource Management and its purpose
Human Resource Management is defined as process of effectively managing the human
resources of a company in a way that leads to bring achievement of overall goals and objectives
(Bratton and Gold, 2017). It includes recruitment, training and development, motivation of
employees using different HR practices.
Purpose Of HRM
Select and recruit talented and potential employees using different approaches
Improves efficiency and skills of employees
Builds positive relationship between employer and employees
Motivates and encourages employees to bring effectiveness in business operations
Providing various training and development programs for employees
Different functions of HRM
Kingfisher aims at ensuring that human resource of the organisation put their efforts in
direction and accomplish overall goals and objectives (human resource management (HRM),
2019). Different functions of organisation helps in transforming the raw materials into final

products that meets demands of customers in target market. HRM performs various functions in
Kingfisher which are explained as follows:

Assigning job roles and responsibilities
Training and Development

Brief explanation of two functions
Training and Development: This function of HRM aims at improving the skills and knowledge
of employees. Various training and development programs are held by HRM in order to bring
effectiveness in business operations and activities. Kingfisher provides training to employees to
sharpen their skills, clear concepts, changing attitude of people and making clear about their
duties and roles. This will lead to bring effective benefits to both employer and employees.
Employee Engagement: HRM focuses on motivating and encouraging employees in business
activities and operations so that they feel satisfied. Employees engaged in business activities put
their best efforts and come up with innovative and creative ideas that leads to increase its
effectiveness. Effective involvement of employees is encourages by HRM and also leads to make
them retain in Kingfisher which reduces employee turnover.
Various approaches of recruitment and selection
Selection and Recruitment of employees is the main focus of HRM in order to bring
talent and skills which is appropriate to fulfil business functions and objectives (Brewster,
Vernon, Sparrow and Houldsworth, 2016). Kingfisher being a large retailing organisation
requires large number of employees who helps in accomplishing the overall objectives of
company. There are two approaches to recruitment and selection which can be used by
Kingfisher, which are explained as follows:
Internal approach of recruitment and selection
This approach aims at recruiting employees from internally or within the organisation.
Kingfisher can make use of this approach using transfers, employee referrals or even promotions.
Internal approaches are easy and time- saving and helps organisation to fill vacant post quickly.
