INTRODUCTION Each and every business corporation need to take into account the needs of theirhuman resources as they are quite crucial for the purpose of delivering a business strategy.This is almost impossible if staff members are not in place with perfect combination of bothaptitude as well as skills (Wilton, 2011). Pertaining to this, the human resource planningshould take place within the firm. The present study also deals with introducing methods ofhuman resource management within the workplace. The company taken under considerationis Thomas Cook, which is the leading leisure travel group of the world with 23 millioncustomers (Thomas Cook, 2018). As a human resource officer in the company the main taskis to focus on HR planning and its various factors and different ways of identifying skills ofemployees for carrying out a job. The second part pays attention on the ways to gaincommitment of the employees, related theories, practices and effectiveness of HRMprocesses. PROJECT – 1 (HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING)TASK – 1P1 Human resource planning – internal and external factors There are many internal as well as external factors that needs to be taken intoconsideration in the HR planning process and these are as follows: Internal factors in HR planning Organizational needs – The needs of the Thomas Cook is generally governed by thedemand for the products and services. There are chances that company later theirproduction from one product to another for the purpose of reaching out to a new targetmarket. Because of this, company requires workers having different knowledge andabilities. In this regards, the present staff members can also be retrained for acquiringnew skills (Pilbeam and Corbridge, 2010).Technological changes – Throwing light in relation with the technology, it keeps onaltering every time. Technology in Thomas Cook usually include, computers,software and office equipment. A change in the technology will also develops a needto re-educate the staff members or update their skills. Location of services – Sometimes, it happens that company decides to relocate theiroffices to some other citifies or nations and this decision also requires a considerableamount of planning. It is crucial to think whether their existing workers are ready to1

move or staff in that particular area will have right skills or not (Chang, Gong andShum, 2011). Workforce demographics – It is again a vital factor in HR planning process. Forexample, if most of the staff members in the firm are at their retirement age or if thereis some racial imbalance within the firm, it is essential for the company to have aneffective recruitment programme. External factors in HR planning Supply of labour – It is vital for the HR planner to take into account the local labourmarket. They should analyse the type of skills being needed to perform the job isavailable in that market or not. Further, they should also consider the demographics aswell that whether the workforce is growing or declining and their age structure(Thomas Cook, 2018).Labour cost – This factor is very important for Thomas Cook, as there is too muchcompetition being faced by the firm from the companies located in the nations havinglower costs of labour. Thus, being a global firm, they can easily relocate their officesin the area where labour costs is low. Government policy – The policies of the government in regards with taxation,employment law, insurance and contracts should be considered. The government issupportive or not should be evaluated before deciding on the relocation or starting ofoperations. Changing nature of work – Nowadays, each and every individual desire to have goodwork life balance. Thus, firm is required to offer such terms and conditions that fulfilsthis desire if they want to hire high potential staff (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014). 2
