INTRODUCTION
This report is on the selection and recruitment procedure of the candidates carried out by the human
resource management. This report shows how the creation of the recruitment and selection portfolio
and completing the practical activity to select and recruit staff for a company within the Arcadia
Group including the new Employment Relations and Human Resources Management processes and
practices in recruitment and selection process. Moreover, this report shows fair assessment of the
interview candidates and the factors that influenced human resource management decision-making
throughout the process (Mondy and Martocchio, 2016).
Recruitment & selection process
The human resource Management of the organization carries out the recruitment and selection of
the candidate for the eligible position. Selection of the candidate is carried out various steps. The
human resource management is also responsible for fair decision-making for the candidate.
The selection and recruiting procedure by Human Resource Management is carried out by the
following steps.
Reception
The company is known by the people it employees. Therefore, the company creates the first
impression at the reception stage. The team assigned for hiring process must present itself in the
friendly manner. The team must ensure that each individual candidate must be getting all the
opportunities presented by the hiring team in the clear & honest manner. It must be taken care by
the Human Resource management team that no candidate has been discriminated at this stage by
allowing each willing candidate to take part in the hiring process.
Initial screening
This step is carried out in the selection process to cut the cost of the organization by letting only
suitable candidates to take part in the process on the basis of fair and justified terms. This screening
is on the basis of various categories according to the job profile or the type of task which the
candidate has to perform while working within the organization. This screening is on the basis of
age, job location choice, aptitude, expected salary, experience, education etc. All these screening
processes must be properly justified and should be fair to avoid discrimination. The decision-
making step taken at this point by human resource management will be choosing among
alternatives.
Application blank
The application blank gives the details of the candidate applying for the job. This application blank
generally consists of personal data, marital status, physical data, educational background,

experience, extra- curricular activities and references. Some times this also show about the social
background of the candidate. The unfair situation that can happen over here is the candidate might
get discriminated over here on the basis social background. Thus., the human resource management
must ensure that no discrimination should occur. The decision-making step taken at this position by
Human Resource Management would be gathering the relevant information of the candidates.
Selection tests
Selection test includes systematic test approaches through which the candidate will undergo, this
step analysis aptitude, performance & behaviour of the candidate. This step checks intelligence,
aptitude, personality, achievement, integrity, simulation, assessment, graphology & polygraph test.
The Human Resource Management must ensure that all the candidates applying for the same post
must get similar difficulty level of the tests. All must give the examination of the same difficulty
level.
Selection interviews
Selection interview involves the oral test (Chelladurai and Kerwin, 2018). In some cases the most
unfair decision in selection of the candidate is taken at this stage only, the HRM over here has to
conduct the proper monitoring of this step as the interviewers may take favourable side of any
known candidate and thus, the most eligible one won't be got selected instead. There are chances
that some interviews get so horrible that the interviewer tend to bully the candidate. Moreover,
sometimes the issues arises of sexual harassment of the candidates. Thus, the human resource
management must take proper steps restrict such practices in the selection processes. The decision-
making step taken here by the Human Resource management would be take action so that the most
eligible candidate would get selected.
Medical examination
Medical examination is the examining of the candidate on the basis of medical terms. Some jobs
required accurate hearing, while some requires accurate vision and on some various other
categories. The official undertaking this step must ensure that if the job does not require any
specific ability than the candidate must not be discriminated on the basis of medical incapability or
disability. The decision-making step taken by human resource management at this step must be
weighing the evidence.
Hiring Decision
the line management of the organization makes the final hiring decision. It is most essential there
must be good understanding between the human resource department and line managers of the
organization to select the most eligible candidate from the all the applicants who have applied for
the post. Here the appointment letter is assigned to the candidate which got selected. The unfair
practice that can happen over here would be the partiality for referenced candidate. The decision-

making step taken by human resource management over here will be reviewing the decision and its
consequences.
Placement
The last step in the selection and recruiting procedure is placement. Placement involves assigning
the accurate position to the candidate in the organization for which it is most eligible for and on the
capabilities of the candidate. The decision-making step taken here by the human resource
management will be the reviewing the decision and its consequences.
CONCLUSION
This report can be concluded as the selection and recruitment procedure of the candidates carried
out by the human resource management of Arcadia Group.. This report showed how the creation of
the recruitment and selection portfolio and completing the practical activity to select and recruit
staff for a company within the Arcadia Group including the new Employment Relations and Human
Resources Management processes and practices in recruitment and selection process. Moreover, this
report also showed how fair assessment of the interview candidates and the factors that influenced
human resource management in decision-making throughout the process.
