INTRODUCTION
Human resource is one of the most significance department within companies that is
accountable for all things related to existing labour, that includes vetting, hiring, promoting,
training, paying and other functions. The present report is based on TESCO, operating its range
of business operations all around the world. This study explains information of above company
including its mission, purpose and business objectives. It also justifies purpose, accountabilities
and roles of HR function, this report explain the significance that department plays in acquiring
talent in context to meet objectives.
Furthermore, the present study clarifies approach of workforce planning, selection,
performance management, reward and training & development. Different approaches used in
human resource practices and job specification for one of given position in firm. This study
explains documentation of preparatory notes for interviews, template job offers for desired
applicant and purpose of conducting suitable HR practices. In addition to this, the current study
defines effectiveness of employee relations, engagement with flexible organization and working
practices. It describes the key elements of employment legislation.

Company overview including purpose, core objectives and mission statement
TESCO is well-known and most popular supermarket chain in UK, that currently
operates successfully in 11 different nations and becoming the world's biggest retailers (Wood,
Coe and Wrigley, 2016). Despite company gargantuan size & growth, firm came from humble
beginnings. They effectively expanded their business operations outside home country in the
world. Jack Cohen, he is the founder of TESCO. In US, Turkey, Japan, France, UK, Thailand
and Malaysia, firm operate its business with skilled people who are able to gain attention of
consumers towards purchasing via using marketing tools. To increase profit and generate
revenue more than previous, company use business acquisition procedure, acquisition of food
wholesaler Booker is business plan of organization which was accomplished in 2018. TESCO
extra, superstore, express, metro, dobbies, tesco Dotocom and one stop are the several operations
of company which they operate in UK. Organization entered into US grocery market through
opening their new chain of convenience outlets, known as Fresh & Easy, on west coast. In
additional to this, company comes from initials of Joint Partner T.E Stockwell, who delivered
business by tea, it is the first company labelled good.

Mission statement-
Mission or core purpose of company is to make their products with good quality, its
mission, vision and values are interrelated. The mission of TESCO is to create value for
consumers, to earn their lifetime trust as well as loyalty.
Objectives of company-
TESCO business objective is to cater electronic, groceries, clothing products and online
services to number of consumers in effective manner. Firm also want to develop online shopping
experience when management is successful in doing, so they can attract many more people
which will help them to achieve business objective one.
Purpose of human resource functions and roles & responsibilities of HR function
HRM is business term used to explain formal programs devised for management of
workers within company (Marler and Boudreau, 2017). Human resource management refers to
the practice of hiring, managing, deploying, recruiting and selecting company’s staff members.
Purpose-
The purpose of this HR function within TESCO is to increase productivity of business,
improve employee’s performance and maximize profit margin by optimizing the effectiveness of
their existing workforce. From legal to financial matters, HRM contribute in maximizing
efficiency of business rather than before. Staffing needs, compensation, benefits, performance
appraisal and law compliance are the five purpose of this section that provide benefits to overall
organizational operations.
Accountabilities of human resource department fall into three categories: employee
compensation, designing work, staffing and worker’s benefits. One of the main responsibility of
HR function is to assure business operates in compliance with all employment as well as labour
laws. They have to comply and understand with UK specific set of regulations relate to workers.
It includes such problems as number of breaks given per number of hours performed and number
of work time in which a person can become employed (Reilly and Williams, 2016).
Functions-
The role of HR function is to recruit talented people and trained existing as well as new
applicant in systematic manner to build strong team at workplace. Its major role is to resolve
conflict and build effective employee relations.
