INTRODUCTIONHuman resources is defined to be a essential element in context of an organisation as itcomprises of a workforce of a company. It generally refers to the people working for a company.It is a separate domain in the company which emphasis on effectively dealing with human capitalof an organisation (Alfes and et. al., 2013). The main function which are carried out in thisdepartment are recruitment, hiring, performance management, retention and finallycompensation. This assignment analyse the working of BT group which is an emergingtelecommunication service provider in UK. This assignment aims to analyse scope of humanresources. The internal and external sources of recruitment will be evaluated so that theiradvantages and disadvantages can be identified. TASK 1P1 Purpose and scope of human resource management applicable to workforce planning andresourcing.Purpose of human resource management defines reason of their existence in theorganisation. The purpose of human resource domain is to form a bridge between employee andmanagement of an organisation. It is essential to formulate a communication between employeesand management so that ideal work environment can be formed. Customer Management: the most crucial purpose which is served by Human resourcedepartment. The efforts of human resource domain are aimed to build a competent workforce sothat customer are served in an ideal manner (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014). It is carried out byserving internal customers ideally so that ideal external relationships can be constructed. Laws: the another purpose which is served by Human resource specialisation is thatlegislation formulated by the government is to adhered. This is generally carried out by themanagement so that legal trouble could be avoided. Metrics: this is another domain which is served by the human resource department of acompany. These are the mathematical tool which is employed so that ideal level of efficiency isattained within an organisation be it relation to different operation carried out in a company. Various Function of Human resource department are: Recruitment: This is the most crucial function which is carried out by human resourcedepartment of an organisation. It aims to forecast and fulfil requirement of human resource1

capital in an organisation (Arumugam and Rouhollah, 2011). This further takes intoconsideration strategizing and adopting most suitable measure of recruitment. Employee Relations: Another major crucial task which is fulfilled by the human resourcedomain of the country is to maintain ideal relation between different human capital in anorganisation. It includes various measures such as conflict management, negotiation andcollective bargaining. Training and development: these are the measures which are to be employed by humanresource professional to uplift level of skills and capabilities of employees working with anorganisation. Training and development tactics are also employed to help and support culturalchange in an organisation (Bloom and Van Reenen, 2011). The major tactics which are utilisedare supervising, training and mentoring. There are two approaches through which treatment of human resources in a company canbe ascertained i.e. Hard and Soft HRM. Hard HRM are the practices which sees employees as amachines and aims to get the work done out of them. There is no emotional connection betweenthe employees and management and are considered as a mere tool to accomplish work. On theother hand soft HRM practices are employee centred approaches by an organisation. Themultinational organisation such as BT have adopted this approach in context of workforceplanning and resourcing. The employees are valued and provided with respect so that they feelcommitted and loyal to the company. This organisation aims to achieve competitive advantage sothat better results can be ascertained. The long terms workforce planning and resourcing isemphasized in this approach. It depends upon the requirement and suitability of measure which is employedby the company.
