CE 2.2 Project Background
CE 2.2.1 Characteristics of the project
I had conducted the project work to design a gas leakage detector and auto dialing control
systemwhich is capable to detect of gas leakage. The characteristics of the system are that it
sends of alert messages to the predefined numbers.In the field of electronics automated, this
system provides with better performance. Microcontroller is used to get information on gas
leakage throughout the gas sensor. It provides with an alert related to the condition being sensed
with use of GSM modem tocell phone. The major features of this particular project are highly
sensitive, lower cost, simple, reliable as well as user friendly. This particular system helps to
upgrade the safety standards, statutory requirements on the environmental commitments with the
basic way to prevent any types of accidents.

CE 2.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
Following are the objectives of this project study:

To provide a safely detection of malfunctions of the pressurized gas system to prevent
any type of accumulations of the combustible gases
To install of conventional trailers and boats based on the stored supply of the pressurized
gases
CE 2.2.3 My Area of work
I had ensured that the proposed system is used for continuous monitoring of the gas
levels. I had observed that when the level of the gas is increased above the normal threshold
levels of the 400ppm LPG, then the proposed system is started to give alarm of issue early
warning at 10ms intervals. It implies that there is lower level of gas leakage. I had determined
that when there is leakage of gas level is increased to approximately 575ppm of LPG, then the
proposed system is activated with audio alarms at 50ms intervals in order to save the industry. I
had ensured that the alarm will not switched off until the level of the gas reaches to its normal
value of around 400ppm. The level of gas leakage is corresponding to the occupational safety
standards. I had worked for the development of most of the electrical equipment’s for the project.
I had also tested the electrical components for the project so that there can be minimum amount
of risk involved in the process. I had helped my team members into the block diagram of the
proposed gas leakage detector and auto dialing control system.

CE 2.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
I had responsibilities to detect the changes into the concentrations of the gas, activate of
the alarm as well as transmission of the signals towards the receiver units. I had drawn the circuit
diagram of the gas leakage detector and auto dialing control system which is capable to detect of
gas leakage. I had determined that the block diagram consists of a microcontroller, GSM modem,
sensing circuits as well as a sensor for detecting of gas. I had done the gas detection with use of
solid state gas detector, MQ-6 which is sensitive to the LPG as well as other gases. It is also
sensitive to the air. Therefore, I had determined that the results as that the reading is not
influenced by air presence. Apart from this I had worked on the development of many of the
electrical circuits for the project which helped in the completion of the project with ease.

CE 2.3.1 Comprehending the Theory of the project

From the above circuit, I had determined the technical details of gas leakage detector and
auto dialing control system are that MQ-6 sensor is used to detect of gas leakage detections. This
sensor is composed of AL2O3 ceramic tube in addition to Tin Dioxide (SnO2) sensitive layer,
measurement of electrode and also heater are being fixed into crust which is made up of plastic
as well as stainless steel. The heater provides of required working conditions for the components
those are sensitive. MQ-6 consists of 6 pins, and among them 4 is used in order to fetch the
signals as well as 2 of them are used to provide the heating currents. A comparator is used to
compare the leakage of LPG based on the normal conditions. Output of the comparator is being
fed into the microcontroller and coding LCD is used as a display for gas leakage. It provides

tanks. I had determined that the temperature sensor is used to communicate with the
microcontroller and the temperature is being displayed at the LCD. I had analyzed that when the
temperature is above 50 degree, and then there is activation of the fire alarm which is displayed
into the LCD.
CE 2.3.2 Engineering Knowledge and Skills applied in the project
I have knowledge to maintain the safety conditions during the detection of the gas as well
as measuring of the vessel are also important. I have checked as well as maintained the safe
levels of the oxygen into enclosed spaces. I have also monitored the levels of oxygen into inlet
gases into the tanks. I have capability to carry out the project work into wide ranges of
instruments which are fixed. I have skills to determine the instruments limitations and its
functions as well as methods to use of. I have knowledge to perform of instrument calibration in
order to get accurate reading as well as maintain of the gas reliability of the detection of gases
instruments. It is important to perform of calibration as well as testing for detecting of the gases.
I have checked for the instruments before I had used it and records are kept for checking in
addition to faults found.
CE 2.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed
As per the block diagram, I had started and initialized all the ports of input as well as
output. I had then initialized the display of the LCD, sensor of the gas as well as GSM modules. I
had displayed the level of the gas into the LCD display. When the gas level of 2kg, then it is used
to send of SMS to the agency, on the other hand, when the leakage of the gas is taken place, then
the alarm is ringing and SMS is being sent to the customer. After that, there is turn off the main
gas valve which is then displayed into the LCD display. A comparator is utilized to look at the

In this project for installation of the proposed system, I had used of PIC kit 2
programmers for dumping code into the microcontroller. I had used this kit unattended by the

leakage occurs resulting into accumulation of the combustible gas.

CE 2.3.4.1 Issues
When the guidance for monitoring of gas is not followed properly by the project team
members, then it will become huge problems when a gas detection system is used for the
detection of the gas. Proper inspections for detection of gas as well as monitoring of the
equipment are not done followed properly. The electrical circuits required for the project had
been studied. This provided helpful as some of the circuits were found to be defective in nature.

I had to follow all the rules as well as regulations for detection of gas. Training is also
provided to the team members. The complete equipment’s were studied and then made into
correct ones with the help of my knowledge in the field of electrical engineering. This helped in
the elimination of the risks associated with the project.

CE 2.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
I had proposed to implement of automatic gas detection system for simplicity of the
human as well as detection of gases for the purpose of home safety as well as industrial
applications. The system is used to detect of gas leakage and also alerts the owner about the fire
issues by ringing of alarms. The owner is alerted about the gas leakage by use of SMS, while
there is activation of alarm. The system is used to monitor the weight of the cylinder of gases and
it is displayed into the LCD which makes it efficient for the security of the home. It is mainly
used into the home to prevent from the detection of gases. This particular project is used of
microcontroller which makes the entire project work innovative and also creative. The cost of the
system is low which makes the project work more successful.

With help of the colleagues, I had arranged the project report so we can capable complete
the study on time. After readiness of the report, I had sent it to the project supervisor for their
input so that on time I needed to roll out conceivable improvements.
