INTRODUCTION
Managing change is increasing professionalising in organisation which also realising that
these are too risky to leave the implementation of best idea. Most of the companies are focusing
to implement best idea so that they can retain in market for a long period of time. For this, there
are several ways in these organisation can manage their business function for example,
maintaining good ambiance at workplace, coordinating with all employees in order to
accomplish pre-determined goals and objectives etc. Nowadays, it is also become important for
organisation to adopt colour-coded waste segregation system which helps in identifying waste in
entity (Carroll and Buchholtz, 2014). In this assignment, KGC ltd company is taken whose aim is
to minimise the wastage of resources which are producing by other departments. In this report,
how organisation will ensure about hazardous clinical waste which include health and safety at
workplace. Further, different tools and techniques has been used where investigator analyse the
data in proper manner.
TASK 1
P1 Aims and objective
Project Title:
IMPROVING SAFETY AT KGC LTD – CLINICAL WASTE DISPOSAL
Purpose:
On 2014-year review, the trust had a few major faults regarding the way of gathering,
disposal and storage of the clinical material were handled. The trust purpose is to see if the staff
is properly trained and if we can improve the way they manage the procedure.
Overview
NW Thames Regional Genetics Laboratory provides a comprehensive genetics services
to a population of approximately 3.6 million in North West London, Hertfordshire and
Bedfordshire.
The trust has a legal duty under The Environmental Protection Act (EPA) 1990 to ensure
that all waste generated through its activities are responsible to managed and a safe system of
work is in place for the collection, storage, handling and transportation of waste from point of
source to final place of disposal. (Waste management policy, Version 1.1, The North-West

London Hospitals, NHS TRUST). All clinical waste handling and disposal procedure must
comply with following regulation which are governed by several authorities.
 Controlled Waste Regulation 2012.
 Hazardous Waste Directive 2011.
 Environmental protection act 1990.
Clinical waste should be stored securely which will also prevent extra utilisation of
resources, harm to environment or human health. Storage waste must be secure and it should be
kept away from public area.
Aims:
To critically assess the collection and disposal operations for clinical waste to identify
factors, which contribute to performance and technical efficiency.
Objectives:
 To critically assess clinical waste operations by trust staff, including volumes/types of
materials arising and current disposal routes.
 To classify and evaluate the way the trust is trained.
 To make recommendations to improve the operational effectiveness of trust staff.
 The scope of the project is identifying through a staff questionnaire during 4 weeks, why
the errors happen in the trust.
 The risk of the project is that the trust staff may not be on the same path as you are and
will not help you with by filling or bringing the questionnaire on time. The financial
manager may not approve with the cost of the project.
P2 Project management plan
Project management plan is a formal and approved document which provide guide to
employees in execution of plans. In this project manager is responsible to create appropriate
plans and strategies with the help of key stakeholders (Connor and et. al., 2014). These project
should be agreed and approved by the higher authority of KGC Ltd. Creation of project
management plan are start with phases and these are finalised at the end by expertise. There are
five major components which must be included the plans so that these can be implemented in
adequate manner.
Scope management – In this, project manager of KCG Ltd has to describe the nature of
assignment which will satisfy the requirements of organisation needs. It will help them, in

describing specification about clinical waste disposal. Along with this, success criteria of project
plan. It is essential for manager to know about the scope of clinical wastage is important because
with the help of this, they can utilise resources in effective manner.
Resource management – In this, manager have to see that how much resources are
available with entity where they can properly implement project in time period (Gogoi and et. al.,
2016). These include; breakdown structure of firm, which clearly shows hierarchy of project.
Further, it also defines roles of every employee which have to be perform by them.
Cost and budgeting management – In this phase, manager has to estimate about costs
which help them in setting the budget. Through this they can also predict future expenses which
are required in implementing project.
Risk and time management – Scholar has to considered both threat and time while
implementing scheme in organisation. For this, they have to create new strategies where it helps
to employees also to perform their task (Hossain and et. al., 2014). Moreover, time period for
completion of project should be clearly stated. Apart from this, manager should also ensure about
that how much threats are linked with clinical disposal waste.
Communication – While executing any new project, then these should be properly
communicated to their existing employees. It should also clearly state that vision, mission of
organisation. Through this they can also take feedback from customers or employees which help
them to improve their overall performance also. Communication requirement in project will be
beneficial for all stakeholders that how they are distributing information with each other.
Quality – After representing plan into an action, then managers have to identify that how
to control hazardous or dangerous activities which are polluting by chemical and how it can be
safely dispose in right manner (Hutt and Speh, 2012). Along with this, they should also ensure
about that whatever resources which are using by them should be in appropriate manner.

P3 Gantt chart and work breakdown structure
Work breakdown structure is hierarchical and incremental decomposition of project
where the tasks are divided into different phases (Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), 2017). It is
a tree structure which shows that efforts are required by each and every employee to target their
goals and objectives. In this manager of KCG Ltd are developing work structure while starting
with end objectives which is bifurcate into manageable components. The work is divided
according to size, responsibilities, duration of completion task. As this structure is providing
common framework for doing the natural development planning and monitor all task which are
executing by employees (Keller, Parameswaran and Jacob, 2011). With the help of this structure
manager can easily can divide their work and reduce the complexities if they are facing any.
Through this they can also maintain sturdy relation with their employees. while improving safety
at workplace, it is essential for organisation to minimise the wastage resources also.
Gantt Chart is helpful for organisation which are used by managers for scheduling
generic resources as well as project management. It provides framework about starting and
completion date of tasks. It is mainly used by large organisation who are carrying new projects.
These charts are useful for entities in making appropriate project plan and it also clearly state
sequence of task which is to be completed in specify time period.

P4 Conducting a qualitative and quantitative research method
There are different tools and techniques in can be used by authors or scholar in order to
identify concept of clinical waste disposal. These techniques will support them in analysing the
data also which is collected by them. By using these methods, it will be easy for organisation to
identify their brand awareness in competitive market (Mullins, Walker and Boyd Jr, 2012). There
are mainly two methods i.e. qualitative and quantitative. Quantitative method emphasizes on
numerical analysis where the data is collected through questionnaire, survey or polls while using
computational techniques. It focuses on collecting numerical data and generalisation across the
group of people. In this data are from in statistical or percentage manner.
Qualitative data, the information which is collected by investigator are measured in terms
of quality. Here, scholars are having huge number of choices in which they can collect data
through government records, books, journals, articles (Nicholas and Steyn, 2017). With the help
of these evidences, it will easy for KGC Ltd, to identify the factors where clinical waste disposal
can be minimising.
For ascertaining these factors, whether it will be useful for organisation, data is collected
via primary in which researcher will also get authenticate and reliable information. For this

survey has been conducted on a 20 employees of clinical who are working in organisation.
However, questionnaire has been prepared for them which will aid to organisation to getting
proper reviews from them.

P5 Analysing appropriate tools and techniques
Research methodology is an approach or collection of tools and techniques which helps
in collecting data relevant to research topic and helps in concluding appropriate findings to
investigation topic. Research methodology is a blueprint to the all techniques and tools which are
developed in order to segregate all type of data which is required to investigate research topic
effectively. Methodology to investigation helps in bring accuracy and authentication in process
of identification and helps in collecting relevant data by an investigator while contributing to
specific findings with research topic. In this respective research report the data is interpreted in
order to conclude to plan for development of an effective method to disposing clinical waste by
reducing its harmful effects to other people and employees (Ries, 2011). Research methodology
defines its design, philosophy which has been followed by an investigator, type and techniques
develops to collect data which are defied below.
Research Design
The explorer of research topic can use various type of investigation design like for an
example exploratory and descriptive research deigns. This is the tool used by a researcher in
order to develop a blueprint and structure to the research approaches. Exploratory research
design is based on interpreting the new subject matter which is not explored earlier and the
investigator comes up with new findings. While descriptive research design helps in defining the
subject topic in depth by collecting different type of data relevant to research topic.

The philosophy is the thinking or approach of a finder to interpret the data. The

Research Type
The research type can be qualitative or it can be quantitative. The qualitative research is
developed by a finder in order defines relevant and accurate facts and figure related with subject
matter. While the quantitative research topic is utilised by an investigator in order to measure the
correlation between the variants of research topic (Berlin Heidelberg, Sood and Sood, 2011). In
this report both type of research is carried out in order to define appropriate facts and figure in-
relation with the determining methods to dispose clinical waste effectively.
Research Approach
The research is using deductive approach in order to conclude to result to the
investigation subject matter. This approach is used by an investigator in order to conclude the
findings from deducting information and data from previous studies and data analysis.

Questionnaire is a strategy which is used in this respective research topic in order to
collect primary data and analyse the information segregated from the responses of participant
efficiently to contribute in relevant an accurate finding to subject matter (Wheelen and Hunger,

disposing clinical waste with the role of various stakeholders of organisation is thematic analysis

engaged in disposing clinical waste is selected by a finder to collect responses from these
participate to interpreted data efficiently.
Ethical Consideration
While developing any research report with a subject matter the finder or investigator
should consider his ethics of working (vom Brocke and Sinnl, 2011). The researcher should work
ethically while collecting information from the participants and using any information from
books and journal. He must have authority to make use of other findings in understanding

waste management process. But 6 respondents are saying that many of workers are not aware
about that what rules and policies of waste management resources which is compiled by

Findings - After collecting primary data, it can be analsyed that whatever wastage are
done by entity are causing hazadous to their health. So it become crucial for to conduct various
programmes in which supervise can provide them proper training that how to use equipement’s.
For this, survey has been conducte and from that it has been evaulauted that 8 respondents are
strongly agreing upon that clininal wastage is causing damage to their health. Whereas, 4
respondents, are saying that they are little agree upon that some these wastage are damaging their
health. In contrary to this, 3 respondents are netural and three are disagree. In last, 2 respondents
are strongly disagree because expertise are supporting workers to minimise risk regarding their
health problems.

primary, at every location in organisation it is required that there should be a dustbin. Through
this garbage can be putted in right place. After conducting investigation, it is evaluate that 16

can through scrape in dustbin only. In contrary to this, 4 respondents are saying that in every
corridor, it is essential for organisation put dustbin at every place so that they can reduce clinical
wastage.

are handling all activities which are performing by employees.

employees. Whereas, 2 respondents are neutral about that.
TASK 3
P6 Reflective statement
As a researcher while doing this report I have witnessed many advantages as well as
disadvantages. I chose to make my analysis and study for this report to be extravagant with large
amount of opinions, thoughts as well as feelings which I have come across. All this gave me
large amount of acknowledgement by various people that I have met in the trip. There was also
some research process which I have carried out for getting proper knowledge about the topic.
This report gave me ideas about proper disposal of waste, collection of useless matter and
throwing them away and lastly storage of clinical material that would have use in later use. It has
taught me to organise myself for proper training of the people to carry out processing of waste
disposal. My job was also to convince people to agree to do such waste on their own level so that
cleanliness is maintained in each and every place. There was so many different exposures while
doing this work which I had to face that added up to my fun experience as well as learning
experience. This type of topic gave me real world knowledge and lot of learning which I could
apply in my own life for betterment of the society.

TASK 4
P7 Recommendations
Waste here refers to the materials which we need to dispose and the waste generated on
health care situation can be disposed safely as we dispose the normal household waste. There are
high risks of infection and chances of other things if it is not disposed well. The health workers
should wear protective clothing and equipment while handling waste. They should separate
clinical waste at the place where it has been generated and try to dispose them in waste
containers. For separating different types of waste they can use colour code of the dustbin. Small
volumes of blood, urine or etc. can be disposed through sewerage system but the large volume of
clinical waste must be disposed with certain regulations. Clinical related wasted should be stored
properly and only those people who have been given licenses should be allowed in that area.
Those containers which has clinical waste should be properly closed and there should be label on
them with the warning signs. Different trolleys should be used for transport of infectious or
hazardous waste. All these disposals and storing of the clinical waste should be according to
policies and procedures of the organization and should follow Environmental Protection
Authority (EPA).
CONCLUSION
From above report, it has been analysed that there should be different types of collection,
disposal as well as storage techniques which should be used for clinical material which should be
handled properly. The whole purpose of this report is to manage the staff members and give
them special training so that they dispose of the waste properly and teach other people about
their proceedings. This report consists of critical analysis of clinical waste which would carry out
operations by staff members. They are usually required to evaluate the trust which would be
responsible for carrying out their training. There are also some operational recommendations
which should be carried out by effectiveness of the staff. In the report also there is some scope of
the project which identifies the staff to find out any error for period of 4 weeks. In this report it
also contains the trust of the staff members which should be properly trained so that is why their
processes are mentioned properly and given here. Also there is an explanation of the project risks
which can be handled by the staff members on the same path which will help them in bringing
some effective measures of improvement.
