Background information
Wesfarmers is found to be a diversified corporation that has grown into one of Australia's largest
listed companies. The headquarter is situated in Western Australia and includes many important
business operations such as home improvement and outdoor living, office supplies, apparel and
general merchandise, energy and fertilizers, health, beauty and wellbeing, etc. It is found to be
one of the largest employers in Australia. They have approximately 484000 as a shareholder
base. The main objective of this companies to provide a satisfactory return to its shareholder.
The situation
In this role play, I am playing a role as a stakeholder in the success or otherwise of response
commitment towards ethical sourcing in modern slavery policy and reconciliation action plan.
The current situation of the company is to achieve the objective and their commitment should
be accomplished. It is not new that corporate social responsibility becoming one of the most
important and necessary activities. CSR is found to be fully filled by each and every organisation
because it becomes to need of society as well as people. In order to achieve the organisational
goals and objectives, a company should not forget that there are some responsibilities towards
society and this is the reason that waste farmers are focusing on eliminating modern slavery as it
becomes very tough. For the purpose of removing and dedicating modern slavery in today's
environment, they are focusing on an application of important policy which name is ethical
sourcing and modern slavery policy. Every day the situation of the natural environment is getting
worse and this is the main reason that they are required to take the necessary course of action.
Wesfarmers is continuously focusing on social development and for that purpose they are
investing and important policies which help to improve the economy and society. There is a
demand for immediate action towards the achievement of economic and societal development.
Current issue
There are many issues that identify by stakeholders in the corporate in which one of the
important issues is modern slavery. Slavery defines as the duty performed by people under

pressure. It is important to respect and promote human rights and also eradicate modern
slavery. The reason behind this is it is continuously growing and becomes a complex problem.
This can be tackled only with the help of collective commitment and responsibility. As a
stakeholder, it becomes necessary for every person to fulfil their commitment towards the
common goal. Modern slavery is really very bad for society as the individuals are exploited by
others for any purpose such as personal or commercial gain. It is illegal and covers a wide range
of abuse and exploitation which includes domestic servitude, organ harvesting, forced labour
and criminal exploitation. It is also found in Australia that Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders
are found to be known as indigenous Australians. In Australia, the people are separated into two
different cultures and on the basis of that scenario, they get unfair. It is an important and
fundamental right for every person to get equal rights and in order to solve this issue, the
Wesfarmers are required to take the necessary course of action.
Solution
 After identifying and understanding the issue, the company took the right action for the
purpose of removing all types of inequalities. They also do this because they know it is an

These are important documents on which Wesfarmers are focused as they are moving towards
sustainability. It is important to understand that sustainable behaviour should be present in each

It is important to understand that businesses are required to remove modern slavery from
society because it is continuously growing and becomes a complex problem. For that purpose,
Wesfarmers is focusing on the application of this policy which can be tackled with the help of
collective commitment and responsibility. If the policies are breached then they will take quick
and practical action.
• 2022 elevate reconciliation action plan
It is found to be an important action plan that focuses on formal commitment to reconciliation
and represents their first elevate RAP. It has five important core areas which include career
progression, sustainable employment, community partnerships, celebrating Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander cultures and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander procurement.
These are the two important actions taken by Wesfarmers and now they require to consult and
communicate with relevant stakeholders to ensure CSR objectives and policy align with
organisational goals. In addition to this, they also require to negotiate with stakeholders to
integrate CSR practices into policies.
