INTRODUCTION
The following essay includes information about the concept of leadership within workplace
and the need of managing the work for managing people within the organisation. Leadership is
defined as the approach used by managers of company to make their employees work in
effective manner and achieve the organisational goals and targets. It is very important for people
to manage the way in which employees are working within the organisation for overall
performance of the company. It is responsibility of leaders to develop skills and knowledge in
order to maintain the staff and employees properly and guiding them to achieve goals in less
time. This report will provide information about the methods of leadership and managing people
effectively.
Propose methods to develop leadership skills to meet the specific requirements of your

There are different ways and methods for developing leadership skills and meeting the
requirements of work place. This include practicing discipline, putting more efforts on projects,
learning to follow, developing situation awareness and inspiring others within workplace. A
good leader must be disciplined and he should be aware of managing the work properly and
achieving his targets in specified time frame (Brendle, 2015). Another way for developing
leadership skill is to to be more responsible about how to provide guidance to different people
for achieving targets. leaders have to step out of their comfort zone and learn new ways and
techniques to manage as executive and leading their employees effectively. A true leader has no
problem building control to other person. As a good leader, the individual must not feel
threatened when someone disagrees with his viewpoint or thought. Leaders should be open
minded and take views of all team members before executing the decision.

The different methods of leadership development includes the way of working with
multiple mechanism like developmental job assignments, formal instruction, executive coaching,

it is very important for the leaders to to analyse their strength and weakness for managing the
work properly. The leaders must accept feedback and they should be open and willing for
making changes. coaching is the best and effective way for facilitating 360 degree feedback.
Coaching - the main focus of leadership coaching is on maximizing the effectiveness of leader. It
also associates with maximizing the effectiveness of organisational team and performance
(Couchman, 2015). This consists of an intense and one on one relationship which aims for
imparting essential lessons on the basis of challenge, assessment and support. The main objective
of coaching is to analyse corrections of any fault. This is used for helping the successful leaders
to enhance their growth and manage their responsibilities properly. The main objective of
coaching is to move leaders to word achieving goals and contributing to the growth of individual
as well as organisation.
Self directed learning -this is associated with the fact that leaders should be taught about new
skills about their selective areas. The way in which leaders are working must be improved
regularly. Leader must do self learning so that they are able to enhance their way of working and
managing their responsibilities as a successful leader properly. When the leaders are are
managing the the success of work, there is need of continuously developing skills and knowledge

organisational targets in less time. Main objective of any organisation is to increase the overall

their effectiveness of business operations and activities. There are different leadership styles
which can be used by managers while handling the various organisational situations (Evans,
2020). It is essential for all the companies to have great leaders within their organisation in order
to remain successful. Different type of leadership styles use by both National and multinational
companies are described below –
Autocratic style - according to this leadership style, the leader has all rights to rule over the
followers and provide them orders for doing actions as per the the instructions given by leader.
According to the viewpoint of autocratic leader, it is analysed that these leaders think that they
are the most smart people within the organisation and they have more knowledge about
everything. Hence, the management has to to listen what is their opinion about the functioning of
the company. Autocratic leadership style is helpful for taking crucial decisions and also in the
situations where quick decisions have to be made by the company.
Authoritative style - according to this type of leadership style, leaders have the the responsibility
of mapping the way and setting expectations as well as engaging the followers on their path.

skills and they provide information to the company about where it is going and what can be the

Coaching style - according to the coaching leadership style, it is seen that this approach is

people are reservoir of talent and it has to be developed for successful organisations. Leaders
using coaching approach are involved in unlocking potential of people. They believe that every
person has power and he or she can develop and grow skills for doing the work in right manner.
Laissez – Faire style - according to this leadership style, leaders are trusting individuals and

Democratic style - the leaders who uses democratic style of leadership always take opinion of

According to the democratic leaders, it is concluded that all the team members in the company
are skillful and they have their own way of working. By taking opinion from different people for
how to achieve the target, it is easy for the leader to choose the best way of achieving the
organisational goal in less time.

theories of leadership depends upon variable like skillful and abilities of working properly. Some
of the leadership theories are mentioned below
Trait theories – according to the trait theory, individuals inherit qualities and traits which makes
them better in in their leadership. Such type of theory determines that there is certain type of
personality or behaviour character of a leader while managing different processes of business.
There are certain traits of successful leaders like extraversion, courage, self confidence and good
analytical skills which helps in becoming a potential leader point. Such type of leaders can

Contingency theories - according to contingency theory of leadership, the main focus of a good

situations. Leaders have to adopt their leadership style by analysing the present situation.
Leaders should know how to to balance between needs, behaviour and organisational context. A
good leader is responsible for managing the needs and demands of the followers and manage the
organisational situation properly.
Situational theories - this theory suggest that leaders are individuals in company who will choose
the best course of action depending upon situation variable and factors. Decision making of
leaders depends upon different kind of leadership which is associated with managing of
leadership styles properly. This can be explained with an example, if there is any situation in
organisation where leader is the most experienced and knowledgeable member of t group,
authoritarian style of leadership will be most appropriate for this company. On the other hand, if
the group members of company e r all skilled experts then democratic style of leadership is the
most effective one.
Behavioural theories - these are the theories of leadership which are dependent on a belief that
great leaders are made and not born (House, 2015). This theory totally depends upon action of a
leader in managing different organisational situations. This theory is not focusing on mental
qualities for internal state of the leader but it it focuses on behaviour of of him in managing the
different situations of business. As per this theory, individuals can learn to become good leaders
by observation and teaching.
Participative theories – according to the participative leadership theories, the ideal leadership
style is. Which is decided on the input of of others. such type of leaders motivate and encourage
participation and contribution of other team members for managing the work properly. This type
of group members are seen to feel more relevant and committed to the decision making process.
In context of participative theories, leaders can retail the right to allow input of team members
for making and effective decision for the company.
It is concluded that there are various organisational situations where leaders have to analyse and
evaluate all the factors before taking the decision. Managers must focus on providing the best

skills and it is very beneficial for team members to do their work efficiently.

employee thinks that the most important things for any employee is to have fun at work. This
criticizes this theory in managing the multicultural employees. It can be said that employees
from different culture can have similar requirements and needs but they have different degree of
job satisfaction. there are several international companies which need local employees because

is a great example of this situation as when it established Michigan plant, it hired both domestic
as well as international employees for achieving success in organisation. The Japanese
employees are given different rewards. The American employees were paid more because for
them, having more money leads to more fun. A good leader is responsible for managing the
attainment of individual goals as well as organisational goals so that there is synchronisation
among overall performance of the company and staff.
