INTRODUCTION
Leadership is the skill and ability of an individual or a group of an individual who can
create an impact on the other members of the organisations. These skills supports employees in
directing and guiding the whole team through which they can effectively perform and focus on
achieving the organisational objectives (Armstrong, 2016). Leadership plays a crucial role in
maintaining an effective management. An effective leadership skill supports in creating positive
influence on the employees through which they can be motivated to perform effectively and
productively which will be helpful in meeting the targets and deadlines. The Connaught Hotel is
a five star luxury hotel which is owned and managed by Maybourne Hotel Group and was
established in the year 1897. The essay will give deep knowledge regarding leadership, its
models and techniques and theories for an organization. The study will highlight the role of
leadership in managing people and meeting the organisational needs. The study will also list an
personal development plan through which required skills will be enhanced.
TASK 1- Company overview
The Connaught Hotel in Mayfair, London was established in the year 1897 and the parent
company of the hotel is Maybourne Hotel Group. The hotel focus on cultural diversity and is
dedicated in fine arts and the hotel has also won many awards through which they has secured
their brand image and reputation in the industry. The hotel offers service like room and suites,
accommodation, catering and food services, venue for meetings and events and spa facilities.
TASK 2- Define appropriate theories, techniques or models focusing on
leadership and management in relation to the organisation
There are various leadership theories, techniques and models which focus on leadership
and management. Some of the leadership theories, techniques and models which has been
followed by The Connaught Hotel, are listed below:
Centered leadership model by McKinsey- The centered leadership model was proposed
by McKinsey in the year 2008 which focuses on creating a link with satisfaction of leaders with
their performance in the organisation (Azad and et.al, 2017). This model of leadership and
management emphasis on developing and sustaining leadership styles in the workplace. This
theory of leadership and management emphasis on managing the energy, increasing engagement,
creating positive framework and building connection through which organisational objectives

can be accomplished. This leadership model is based on five capabilities, these involves-
evaluating meaning in work, converting emotions, leveraging connections and community,
ability to face risk and sustaining the energy. In relation to The Connaught Hotel, the leaders of
the hotel focuses on their emotional, physical, spiritual and physical strength which will drive
their personal achievement and will be helpful in inspiring the other employees through which
they can all employees can regularly engage in managerial activities in the business through
which the hotel can gain competitive advantage.
Behavioural theory of leadership- The behavioural theory of leadership defines the
leadership capabilities which can be learned and and creates a behaviour of an individual which
will help them in creating a specific response to a specific stimuli. This theory of leadership
focuses on how leaders behave and assume how these traits are learned from others which helps
them in becoming a successful leader (Bush, 2018). This theory majorly focuses on the
behaviours of the leaders and centers on the leadership capabilities which can be learned and
inherent. In relation to The Connaught Hotel, the leaders of the company focuses on the
observable actions and reactions of the leaders and other managers which can be gained and
inherited by following their actions. By following the behavioural approach, it supports the
leaders of the hotel to form participative decisions, ensure team development and align all
individual objective with the organisational objectives. These leadership practices followed by
the leaders within the hotel creates positive impact on the relationship with the team and
promotes commitment towards the organizational objectives.
Trait theory of leadership- This theory of leadership was introduced by Thomas Carlyle
and Francis Galton and was published in the mid-1800's. This leadership theory defines that
effective leaders have a common pattern of personal characteristics which supports them in
ensuring all individual are working towards the achievement of the common goals and gave a
shared vision. This leadership theory enforced in the management defines the characteristics of
leaders which is helpful in determining the effectiveness of leadership. The trait leadership
theory defines the interest, abilities an personalities of leaders which has been followed by them
in managing the operations and functions of the business (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). In
relation to The Connaught Hotel, the leaders of the hotel follows trait theory of leadership which
helps them in evaluating their position in the hotel and gathering deep-understanding regarding
the impact which has been created by them in the organisation. With the help of this theory or
