In the given article, (Trastek, Hamilton and Niles, 2014) a discussion is there on the
current health care systems. The main objective of this article is to analyse the best type of
leadership that will be effective in health care systems and know about the challenges of
applying this leadership(Asrar-ul-Haq, M., and Kuchinke, K. P. (2016)). The second objective
of this article is to provide a crucial leadership that can effectively help in achieving the goals
and objectives of the health care providers. The scope of this case study will help to know about
the best leadership style that can be adopted by managers and leaders for implementing strategies
effectively. This study suggests that the main challenge of leadership style is to improve quality
and lower cost for increasing the value of healthcare. There are some changes that have to be
implemented in health care for improving value in front of people. The value of health providers
increase when they are treated well and not asked for unnecessary tests. The usefulness of this
study is that it explains that on the job training for leadership must be provided so that patients
shall feel valued and treated well. A qualitative study states that leadership development is
important in health care industry. The different kinds of leadership given in this article are
adaptive, transactional, transformational and servant leadership. The limitation of this article is
that it only concludes about leadership of a particular health care industry. The conclusion of this
study is that leadership depends upon situation and condition. Servant leadership is best type of

leadership for health care industry as this kind of leadership emphasises on trust and value. It
helps in building a good relationship with patients (DuBois, M. and Et. Al. (2015)). When

Transformational leadership
in nursing practice
Doody, O. and Doody, C.M., 2012. Transformational leadership in nursing practice./British
Journal of Nursing/,/21/(20), pp.1212-1218.
In the given article (Doody and Doody,2012), it has been analysed that nurses face
several challenges and opportunities in today's era. There must be effective leadership in
workplace so that nurses can feel valued and motivated and work efficiently. In nursing sector, it
is very important that they are motivated and help in treating patients well. Transformational
leadership and transactional leadership is followed by organisation for making leaders and
managers manage the company (Cooper, D. (2015)). This article emphasizes on transformational
leadership and it's application in nursing and there are four components of transformational
leadership. According to the department of health and children it is stated that empowerment
necessities services for organising a supportive environment which values nurses and engage
them in operational and strategic matters. This promotes opportunities for learning and changing
that determines personal and service effectiveness. The conclusion made by this study is that

performing different tasks at work. The transformational type of leadership helps in building

demand of inspiring and motivating smart leader nurse. There are several qualities of
transactional nurse leaders such as mentoring, risk taker, visionary, effective communicator,
courageous, emotionally mature, desire for learning, etc (Arnold, K. A. and Et. Al (2015)). This

an application of the situational leadership model
CARLOS DO REGO FURTADO, L.U.Í.S., DA GRAÇA CÂMARA BATISTA, M.A.R.I.A. and
JOSÉ FERREIRA SILVA, F.R.A.N.C.I.S.C.O., 2011. Leadership and job satisfaction among
Azorean hospital nurses: an application of the situational leadership model./Journal of nursing
management/,/19/(8), pp.1047-1057.
In the given article, (CARLOS DO REGO FURTADO and et. Al, 2011) leadership style
are explained which are adopted by nurse managers while treating patients. The health care
providers and hospitals have to adopt environmental changes and make changes in management
policies on the basis of these changes. Leadership is defined as the ability of individuals to make
others work according to their requirement and for attaining a specific goal or objective
(Amanchukwu, R. N., Stanley, G. J ., and Ololube, N. P. (2015)). The main aim of the study
is to explain the leadership behaviours of nurse managers and perception of staff nurses towards
the leadership style of their leader. This study was done to determine the affect of leadership on
job satisfaction of staff nurses. The research methodology used in this study is quantitative,
inferential, descriptive and correlational study which was conducted in two public Portuguese
Azorean hospitals. The target population for conducting the research was 451 registered nurses
and and these does not include those nurses who are working in outpatient services and

operating theatres. In this study, data was collected by filling up of questionnaire that was
based on leadership effectiveness and adaptability. Also, the researcher used a job satisfaction
instrument for measuring the satisfaction level of staff nurses. This study shows that leadership
style can have impact on the job satisfaction level of nurses. This study is useful as it helps in
analysing different ways which affects leadership styles and behaviours of mangers and leaders.
The limitation of this research is that the overall participation rate was 58.9% who filled the
questionnaire. For evaluating a successful research, there must be more number of members who
take participation in collecting data about research topic. The conclusion made by this study is
that analysing the leadership styles of leaders and job satisfaction of employees are important
for top level management and middle level management. According to this study, it is evaluated
that there is a need for investment in training for head nurses as it will improve efficiency of
management in hospital wards (Yahaya, R., and Ebrahim, F. (2016)). This study helped me in
analysing the way by which nurses get affected by the leadership style followed by the leaders.
This study increases my knowledge on factors that are related to social recognition of
professional group. This will help me in doing projects related to this topic. This research helped
me in knowing about situational leaders and how they react in different business situation. I will
be able to do good in projects related to situational leadership and my knowledge and skill
related to leadership styles will be enhanced. This study and research about impact of leadership
on job satisfaction will help me to analyse the different ways by which nurses are affected by
leadership styles of managers and leaders.
