METHODOLOGY Research methodology is defined as the process or technique used to gather information and data about any topic or subject. Main purpose of methodology is to help researcher in data collection and analysis. For this section, research onion framework is used because this includes various layers that turn to impact in collecting accurate information about the relationship between learning novel words and language proficiency in bilinguals. There are different types of research methods that explained as below; Researchphilosophy:Itintroducestotheprocessofcollecting, evaluatingandusing information regarding any topic or area of study. There are three types of philosophies that are ontology, epistemology and axiology (Basias and Pollalis, 2018). All these philosophies are examined as under; Ontology: It describe the study of reliability. There are several types of ontology philosophy such as constructivism, pragmatism and objectivism. Epistemology: This type of philosophy helps investigator in gathering of appropriate informationaboutthetopic.Therearecertainkindsofepistemologysuchas interpretivisim, positivism and critical realism. Axiology: This philosophy facilitate researcher to learn how opinions and valuables impact the collection and evaluation of research. Therefore, all these are effective types of research philosophies but for collecting and analysing information regarding the relationship between learning novel words and language proficiency in bilinguals, positivism under epistemology is used because it provides numerical information (Nayak and Singh, 2021). There are various benefits of using positivism philosophy such as cost effective, less time consuming etc. Research approach:It is the procedure of evaluating gathered data through effective approach. There are basically two approaches that are inductive and deductive. Both approaches of research are essential and explained as below; Inductive approach:This is an effective type of research approach and facilitate investigator in evaluating qualitative data. Deductive approach:This approach of the research is effective in analysing quantitative data.
Therefore, both approaches of the research are essential in their way. For evaluating quantitative information regarding the relationship between learning novel words and language proficiency in bilinguals, deductive approach is applied as it provides valid outcomes. There are various advantages of deductive approach such as helps in gathering numerical data from larger samples, not require maximum time, helps in saving cost etc. Research strategies:This is essential part of the methodology because it assists in gathering accurate information through useful approach. There are different approaches of research strategies such as experimental, case study, survey and action research (Novikov and Novikov, 2019). All these are explained as under; Experimental: This introduces to the approach of developing a research process that examines the results of experiment in contradiction of the expected outputs. Survey: This is an essential strategy in gathering accurate and first hand data about any topic or subject. This strategy is effective in gathering primary data. Case study: This strategy is emphasised on one or more people or a particular area. Case study is mainly used in financial studies. Action research:It is another strategy that helps in gathering accurate information for educational industry. Thus, all these are essential research strategies. Within a dissertation, survey is a selected strategy because it assists in gathering primary and quantitative information. There are various reasons behind the selecting of survey as a research strategy (Ratnam, 2019). These are; high representativeness, effective Statistical significance, precise outputs etc. Therefore, as compared to all, survey is more effective and beneficial in current dissertation. Research choice: This is important for researcher to use effective type to research choice in conducting any type of dissertation. These choices of the research are defined as under; Mono method: This is an effective choice of the research that facilities in collecting single type of data, either qualitative or quantitative. Mixed method: This method facilitates in collecting both type of data that are qualitative and quantitative. Multi-mixed method: This method is similar with mixed method and also facilitate in gathering qualitative and quantitative data.

Thus, all these are effective choices but in accordance to the existing topic, mono method is used. Under this choice, quantitative method is applied by researcher. There are several reasons behind the selection of quantitative research such as data collection is quick, get data from larger samples etc. These are main advantages of using quantitative research. Time horizon:Time is important within a research because it helps in completing each activity of dissertation in allotted time period. There are two approaches of time horizon such as cross sectional and Longitudinal. Both approaches are defined as below; Cross-sectional:This approach is based on actual situation and facilitate in completing full dissertation within given time period. Longitudinal: It is essential in completing qualitative project because it requires long time. Therefore, both approaches of time horizon are essential but according to the existing topic, cross-sectional is a chosen approach. One of the main reasons for using cross-sectional is it not takes maximum time and assist in achievement of research aim and objectives. Data collection: This is the process of gathering accurate information regarding aby topic or subject (Shahar and et. al., 2019). There are two methods of data collection such as primary and secondary. These methods are defined as below; Primary method: This is an effective method that helps in collecting first-hand data about the specific topic. It is defined as a methodology that applied by investigator for gathering data directly. Secondary method:This is another method that helps researcher in gathering in-depth information from various sources. These sources are books, articles, magazines etc. Therefore, bothmethodsareessentialwithinadissertation.Forcollectingprimarydata, questionnaire is used and for gathering secondary information journals, articles are used.
