Task 1
Importance of studying child development for a teacher
The knowledge of child development is very important for a teacher
to interact with students in the class in order to learn the unique learning
requirements and the different personalities of the children. The IQ level
as well skill sets varies from children to children with changes in
cognitive, social, emotional and physical development as they grow up
(Garvis et.al, 2018). Therefore, the monitoring of such development and
devising lesson plans as well as teaching methods to make them
comfortable in the study environment is needed.
Growth v/s development of a child
The growth of child focus on the physical dimensions of the child
in terms of age, height and weight within the biological body. The growth
shares a positive relationship with the age of the child, being a
progressive change from one stage to another.
The development of the child focus on the physical as well as
social, emotional, cognitive and behavioural dimensions of a child th
changes in abilities and behavior patterns. It is a rather gradual process
of change taking place in a wide scope at environmental contexts and the
people, the child interact with.
Stages of childhood development
There are 5 stages namely:
1. Infant (3 -6 months)
2. Toddler ( 1-3 years)
3. Early Childhood / Pre-school ( 3 -5 years)
4. Middle Childhood ( 5-9 years)
5. Adolescence ( 9-14 years)

Comparison of theories of childhood development
The Psychosexual Developmental Theory by Sigmund Freud
states that a child develops through the energy of libido by various
pleasure areas on the body. The Psychosocial Development Theory of
Erickson states the growth and change of the child’s behavioural
patterns through social interaction with the family and friends in the
environment. The Cognitive Developmental Theory by Piaget states
how a child develops through changes in the mental processes and
thoughts, on thinking differently than the adults in the environment.
Impact of children’s development on learning
1. The physical development dimension like age helps developing the
intelligence level impacting the capture of the learning curriculum of
the school.
2. The social development through interaction with people will make
them build social skills like empathy and cooperation
3. The cognitive development will help in learning new patterns with
creativity
4. The emotional development will help in adapting to the environment
and the modulation of behavior.
Task 2
Concept of learning style
There are four types of learning styles:
1. Visual Learning style through pictures, videos
2. Auditory Learning style through music and story sessions
3. Kinesthetic Learning style through gaming, crafting and activities
4. Writing Learning style through hand writing in the copies
