Introduction
The term tourism can be defined as the activities of individuals travelling to as well as
staying in places that are outside their usual environment for business or leisure purposes. In this
era of technological advancement, the global tourism industry is experience rapid growth. As per
the data collected in the year 2018, in the mentioned year, approximately 9.2
million tourists visited Australia from overseas, which depicts an increase of 5.2 percent in
tourist visit in the nation from 2017 (Musa, Mohezar Ali & Moghavvemi 2016). Thus it is
highly crucial to analyse the tourism industry of the nation in order to maintain its growth. In the
following paragraph, a photo essay will be written based on the Leiper’s Whole system Tourism
in one of the most popular tourist destination of Australia, Sydney Opera house (Varvaressos
2018). The three elements of the Leiper’s model that will be considered while writing the essay
include the human element that is the Tourist the geographical elements that include The
Generation Region (TGR), The Destination Region (TDR) and the travel enroute or Travel Route
Region (TRR). Tourist is considered to be the human element of the model. According to Leiper,
they are the individuals who travel from the TGR through TR to RDR and return back in the
same way (Musa, Mohezar Ali & Moghavvemi 2016). They are the most vital element on which
the financial enhancement of a tourism industry depends. The TGR are places where a tourist’s
trip begins or end. The TRR includes the places where the main travelling activity of the tourist
takes place. The TDR includes places where the main activity of the tourist takes place. The third
element of the model includes the tourism industry that includes collection of managed
organizations, in business of tourism and providing services. In the following paragraphs, the
whole travelling process of travelling to Sydney Opera house will be discussed along with
relating the same with the Leiper’s Whole Tourism model.

Tourists at Sydney Opera House
The image represents a group of tourists who had visited the Sydney Opera House. As being
discussed earlier, tourists are the one of the three dimensions of the Leiper ‘s WTS (Varvaressos
2018). They are the chief contributors of the tourism industry since the amount of money sent by
the tourists while visiting a particular location and the total number of tourists visiting the
destination region (TDR), determines the rise in revenue of the tourism earned from that specific
TDR. According to Backer and Hing (2017), more than 45.2 percent of the total tourists who

visit the Sydney opera house is from New Zealand. Other major TGR from where tourists visit
the mentioned TDR includes China, UK and USA (Carlsen 2015).
Tourists from New Zealand to the Sydney Opera House
The above image indicates two tourists who had came to visit the Sydney Opera House (TDR)
from New Zealand (TGR). The Tourist Generating region (TGR) are defined as the permanent
residential bases of the tourists that is the countries from where tourists comes to visit a specific
tourist destination (Tang, Weaver & Lawton 2017). For Australia, the maximum number of
tourists are found to be from New Zealand. Majority of the tourists visit the nation for leisure
purpose. However, the number of tourists for business purposes is also not less. For instance, the
couple (picture above) have visit the place to enjoy their honeymoon.
