 Operations is concerned with conversion of raw materials into goods and
services with maximum efficiency and deliver value to the customers.

 Operations management is concerned with conversion of raw materials
into desired goods and services with maximum efficiency and create value
to the customers.

Six sigma
 It is the statistical based, data driven approach
which seeks to improve quality of output by
identifying and minimising the defects in
production and the business process.
 It is a continuous improvement approach for
the quality of products.

Just in time management
 It is a inventory management technique which is designed to increase
efficiency of the products and decrease waste by receiving the goods as
they need are needed for production process.
 Main approach of JIT is to eliminate waste and keep the stock holding cost
to a minimum level.

Lean production
 It is an approach of operational management which focuses on removing
waste and defects and thereby ensuring high quality.
 This approach helps the Unilever from designing of the products to
production and distribution.

Total quality management
 TQM is the continuous process of detecting and reducing the errors in
manufacturing process of the products at Unilever.
 It is a continuous improvement of business operations which ensures that
all the employees of Unilever are working towards the common goals of
improving product quality and enhancing the production process.

Importance
 Operational management greatly helps Unilever in achieving business
objectives. These are discussed below-
