Introduction
The report is based on the facts which talk about management operational activities of the
TESCO wherein the value of the manager and the leader is been explained well in detail. The
report is of operational management of company TESCO which is one of the leading TESCOs in
the UK. TESCO is dealing with grocery and other stuff online and one of the leading TESCO in
the UK. The report is talking about the roles and responsibilities of the manager and leader in
which it is been explained the how the manager perform their jobs and what sort of actions are
being taken by the leader in order to co-ordination towards achieving the objective. The report is
also based on the approached which explains what sort of factors are there in the management
which affects the managerial activities like operation management and the decision making the
process by the manager and the leader.

P1- Define and compare the different roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager
In order to have the comparison between the Manager and the Leader, this is important to
understand the who is a Manager and leader. So the definition of the Manager and the Leader is
as followed
Manager- Manager is the person who helps the management to analyze the situation and
then set up the objectives accordingly by which the managerial activities take place in the
TESCO.
Leader- Leader is the person who helps the management to implement the practice
effectively with the help of the getting the respective teams involved in the management
to achieve the objective effectively (Krajewski, et. al., 2013).
Roles and Characteristics of a leader and Manager
Manager Leader
The manager is an administrator who works to
manage all the necessary aspects of the
management. This is something which is been
done by the manager with the help of proper
analysis of the situation and this is how the
manager provides the solution to the issue and
thus a manager manages things in the
management.
Leaders help to implement the practice in the
management and for that they make the
situation understand to the team that what is to
be done and what can be the best practice to
complete the objective given to the team.
Therefore the leader is innovated too because
they innovate the idea of working the given
task effectively.
The manager works to maintain the managerial
value in the TESCO and for that, they work to
monitor the role of different individuals in the
TESCO.
A leader is a person who works to develop the
value which is been maintained by the manager
and for that they lead the team towards to
achieve the objective.
The focus of the manager is on managerial
structure and system in which they monitor all
the aspects which are to be implemented in the

management in order to run the system and
maintain the structural values of management.
This is not necessary that every leader would
be a good leader as the manager needs to work
on different aspects and if the manager is able
to do this effectively still he or she would be a
manager.
But in order to be a manager, this is important
to be a good manager because this is the most
important aspects which are to be followed in
the management properly then only an
individual can be a good leader (Schönsleben,
2016).

effectively applying a range of theories and concepts
Manager and the leader both are important for the TESCO in order to make the work done
effectively in the management because there are different condition and the scenario in TESCO
which comes wherein it is not clear which situation will come at what time so in order to control
and manage such situation which is uncertain proper managerial activities must be followed in
the management. This is something which is possible with the help of the proper coordination in
the management which can get implemented by the coordination of the leader and the manager
because the manager plans to manage things and the leaders help to implement the plan by
making the work done with their respective teams (Binz, et. al., 2013)
