INTRODUCTIONManagement and operations are the two main fundamental strength elements in anorganization. This report will discuss the role of leadership and management in business firm,along with differences between a leader and a manager, their traits and characteristics, functionsof a manager and role of a leader in an organizational context. It is prepared to understand therole of managers and leaders in a company which helps in the improvement of production anddevelopment of high quality products. The project includes study on Ford Motor Company, an American multinational automanufacturer. Importance of theories of management and leadership styles has been explainedwith reference to the operation's management of Ford. It will present advice to improve theadministration at workplace. In addition, the assignment covers concepts and approaches tooperations management and the role of ensuring efficient and effective operations bymanagement. TASK 1a) Differences and similarities between a leader and manager considering their roles andcharacteristicsLeader is an individual who influences, convinces, leads and commands agroup or team to follow for achieving a goal. Manager is a person who manages, controls,administers and guides the activities or processes of a business organization. The commonthing or similarity between a leader and a manager are that they both are essential for thesuccessful working of a business. They both motivates the employees for the betterment ofthe business.In every organization, leadership and management have a major role in achieving goalsand objectives (Jacobs and et.al., 2014). Ford Motor Company has an immense workforce intheir organization and for managing they need effective leaders and better governance. Theleaders and managers perform various roles in the establishment.Comparison between leader and manager with their roles and characteristics are as follows:LeaderManager He leads a team with innovative styles ofleadership, having particular mission andvision for an organization.He is the Soul of an organization who bringsoperations in a systematized manner with theirmanagement skills.1

Leads the innovative workforce to execute thestrategies of management through masses ofthe organization.Manages the administrative unit which plansand organizes the resources with an objective.Leaders perform duties like motivating,internal strategies for delivering work,performance management, etc.Their functions include planning, organizing,directing, controlling, resource allocation,achieving objectives etc.They communicate and influence employees towork as per policies.Managers communicate policies to the leaders.Leaders invent or innovate by bringing newideas to a forward thinking level by developingfresh thoughts and strategies.A manager organizes alongside maintainingwhat is already established. They controlemployees and workflow in an organization.They take decisions for betterment of anorganization and it can be of high risk. Theyhave power to take any decisions withoutanybody's consent.Managers need to execute decisions taken upby top-level management with supervision.They are not free to take any decisions as itmay harm the organization.Leader personality will influence team andentire organization. Their attitude and actionsare helpful in achieving goals of a company.The attitude and behaviour of a manager isdecent. Manager manages the daily operationsby bringing professional attribute in anorganization.Leaders are enthusiastic and dominant in theirposition. Managers posses versatility and commitment tothe businesses.The main role of a leader is to motivate theemployees.Manager plays a crucial role of monitoring theactivities in the business organisation.Major responsibility of a leader is to ensureoperational effectiveness by making the staffwork efficiently.Manager has the main responsibility ofensuring the business goals and objectives aremet.Authority and power of a leader is the controlor influence of the employees in anorganization.Managers has the authority and power of allactivities in a business organisation whichincludes staffing, appointing, terminating etc.2
