INTRODUCTIONManagement is direction of company whether it is non-for profit business or governmentbody. It involves functions of fixed the approach of company and coordinating efforts of itsworkers to achieve its goals. On other hand, operation is activity and active process of dischargeof function(Lobo and Curtice eds., 2014).The management of operations to company is the fieldobsessed with controlling procedure of manufacture and recreating business function. This studyis based on Starbucks. It is coffee company and coffee house chain. This report will define andcompare different roles and characteristic of leaders and managers of company. It will examinerole of leaders and function of manager in different situations. It will apply different theories andmodels of situational leadership, systems and contingency approaches. Furthermore, report willexplain key approaches to operation management and role of manager as well as leaders in it. Itwill assess factors within business environment that impacts upon operations management. TASK 11.1 Role and characteristic of manager and leaders Leaders: A person who is responsible for to lead subordinate and influence them toaccomplish particular objectives is known as leaders. They are giving guidance and instructionfor completing task effectively. Leaders are required at all level of company that action asrepresentative of firm(Jyoti and Bhau, 2015). Leaders are growing their team memberspersonally and changes factor. Leaders have many qualities like open minded, ability to inspire,positive attitude and clear vision of team work in the organization. They have manycharacteristics such as delegate, passionate, creativity and innovative for effective team work inStarbucks. Manager: A person who is responsible for planning and controlling of entireorganization is called as manager. They are accountable for organizing, directing, coordinatingand controlling. Managers are also required at all department of company. Managers are refiningsystems, structures and procedures. They are making judgement and focus on process ofStarbucks. Administrators have many qualities such as committed to work, confidence,impressive decision making and more discipline for their work in organization(Jiang, 2014).Managers have various characteristic such as effective communicators, higher knowledge,impressive time management and delegation for their work in the organization. 1

Role and characteristic of leaders and manager: Basis Leader Managers Vision Leaders are made vision in theStarbucks.As opposed, managers arecreated goals of company. Objective Care of leaders is teamobjective and member'ssatisfaction. As compared to, interest ofmanager is objectives ofStarbucks. Fundamental rights There are no rights of leaders.They are representative ortemporary. Beside that, managers hasmany rights because of itstatus. Also, they are morestable in the workplace.Risk taking Leaders are taken risk incompany. As compare to, managers aretake risk in organization. Relationship They are building relationshipsin the Starbucks. As opposed to, managers arebuilding system and process incompany. Conflicts resolution Leaders are dealing withconflicts in the team work. As compared to, managers areavoiding conflicts in theworkplace. Team building skillsThey have behaved be humbleto team members. Leader areleading by example. Besides that, manager haveexpected excellence in theirwork.
