INTRODUCTION
Management structure describes the management hierarchy of the organization with the
help of which company can manage the line of authority, communication, rights and duties
among the staffs (Tau and et.al., 2018). This report will discuss the management structure, roles
and responsibilities of the mangers and leaders of the Tesco Plc. Tesco Plc is a British
multinational retail organization which offer groceries and general mechanized products to its
local and international customer. The company currently have presence in more than 13
countries and is one of the third largest retailer in the world. Basically, Tesco company follow a
hierarchical organizational structure where positions and obligations are divided into many parts
in order to ensure smooth and efficient function of businesses. Lastly, the report will also discuss
the different situations and strength and weakness of different approaches to leadership.
Comparison and Differences between the roles of leaders and functions of managers

Meaning A leader basically create vision and
then direct and control its team
member towards the attainment of
specific vision (Milner, McCarthy
and Milner, 2018).
While on the other side, manager
is a representative of the
organization which create
business goals and objectives.
Role The leader provide direction to the
employees about how to work by
creating vision and communicating it.
They also motivate the team members
and followers.
The managers formulate the
structure of the business and
divide and delegate the authority
and responsibility to employees.
Management The leaders of the companies perform But managers follow and perform

staffing, directing and controlling
(Milner, McCarthy and Milner,
2018).
Approach They follow proactive approach of
strategic planning.
On the other hand, managers
follow reactive approach of
strategic planning.
Qualities required Only leadership qualities are required
to became leader of company.
Both leadership and managerial
qualities are required to became
manager the company.
Authority The leaders possess informal
authority because of their personal
qualities.
While on the other hand, the
positional role of managers
defines formal authority.
Exists in The leadership exist in both formal
as-well-as informal structure.
The role of manager exist in only
formal structure.
Aims The main aim of leaders is to
motivate and inspire people towards
the set direction by following
intrinsic process (Billsberry and et.al.,
2018).
The main aim of managers is to
directing and controlling
employees towards planned
activities by following extrinsic
process.
Style The leaders follow transactional and
transformational leadership style in
order to align people.
But, managers follow
administrative theory in order to
arrange people.
Strives They strive for effectiveness in
employees work.
They strive for the efficiency in
businesses activities.
Characteristics The characteristics of leaders involve
confident, creativity, honesty,
communication and motivation.
The characteristics of managers
involve positive attitude,
empathy, responsibility,
