INTRODUCTION Operation management is an field of management that related with designing and coordinating process of manufacturing and designing operations of business of goods and services. It focus on creation of higher level of efficiency that is possible for an organisation and concerned with transforming raw materials into finished products and services to gain maximum level of output. It helps in balance cost and revenue to get highest level of possible outcomes. This report is based on Grange which provides luxurious services in which accommodation, hospitality and events services are very important. this report is based on role and characteristics of leader and manager with examples and it also includes various circumstances or situations in which leader and manager contributes a lot. It also includes various kinds of theories or concepts that proved beneficial such as situational, system and contingency leadership. The day to day works and procedure helps to organisation to gain strategic goals and objectives by deep analysing and measurement of current works and procedures in Grange hotel. In an organisation manager and leaders plays very crucial role to reach at desirable goals and objectives that are as follows: Manager:
Manager is an individual who are responsible for coordinating and cooperating different works and procedures to gain competitive advantage. Managers are utilised in every sector and give their major contribution in managing and distributing works and responsibilities to reach at desirable outcomes (Davidsonand Olsen III,United Parcel Service of America Inc, 2013). Working as an manager is one of best accomplishment because it gives professional ability and efficiently communicate with their workers to achieve desirable outcomes. In every corporate sphere managers contributes in business in most significant way that reflect intheir profits, organisation and employee morale level. Role of business manager: Manager plays very crucial role to distribute roles and responsibilities in a clear way that helps to organisation to achieve goals and objectives that are as follows: Daily operations:The main and primary role of a manager is to coordinate or cooperate various functions in a department or large group of employees (De Roover,2017.). Managers plays very important role in enhance productivity level of employees and proficiency of works and procedures to gain competitive advantage. In an organisation, manager and leaders are play an important role in Grange hotel in order to reach with desired goals and objectives effectively. There are various situational which judge qualities and traits of leaders and managers in different situations that are described as follows: Conflict management– Conflict is the main part of every organisation which occurs due to miscommunication and misunderstanding among workers and higher authority of Grange hotel. Conflictsdevelop and create hurdles in progress of organisation development and employees life are spoil due to image of subordinate. Sometime conflicts and disputes are arise due to cultural gap within an organisation (Hoyos, Morales and Akhavan-Tabatabaei, 2015.). In the hotel, there are various issues and conflicts are arise due to miscommunication and misunderstanding among employees and manager. Along with this, culture difference develop obstacles in developing an organisation and formulating strategies for reach with desired customers. For solving major issues and problems, Grange hotel manager conduct meetings where they are know each worker conflict with each other. Also they require to initiate steps in which they are resolve major issues of employees and guest regarding room service, cleanliness and other services. On the other hand, leader take feedback and response from hotel manager in better manner and fully analyse arising problem after that make appropriate decisions for the welfare of guests or customers.
Planning– The role of a leader and manager increasing at time and new and current product launch in new market along with variety of features and services in Grange hotel. Planning is require for an organisation at the time of launching new services among customers who come visit their hotel. In this, manager known each and every employee suggestions and reviews of workers before planning to launch new service for their desired customers in the market. For this, they attract large number of guests whether they are domestic as well as international level (Rajanand et.al , 2012). Simultaneously, it will give reviews and views to leader of Grange hotel which observe various aspects of an organisation and take decisions as per the market demand and situation in perspective of employees and customers. Organising– In order to organise business operations and its functions, leader and manager play an important role in an organisation. In this context, all the resources and materials allocated regarding accurate needs and wants of guests related to room service, food and staff behaviour. Manager are allocate all duties and responsibilities as per the department in Grange hotel. Along with this, manager organise all resources and arrange them in better manner and leader role is to analyse and check all required resources according to this, they are develop appropriate decisions for the welfare of guests. Commanding: Managers supervise work of their subordinates on daily basis and give inspiration to achieve goals and objectives. It is the responsibility of an manager to communicate with their subordinates to achieve organisational goals and objectives. Controlling: Manager should be responsible for controlling activities that they are line with the companies policies and objectives. They are responsible for observing and reporting plans and objectives with their subordinates. Coordinating: Managers helps in harmonize the procedures and activities to perform well for an organisation and each activity should be complement and enrich work of another. In terms of Grange hotel, leader required to analyse requirement of business in order to implement strategic practices so that they can make changes in business according to the situations.
