 Management and operations is administration that create highest level
of effectiveness and efficiencies within the organization
 It refers to converting raw materials into goods and services so that
effective results should be achieve.
 It is an multidisciplinary approach, concerned with planning, organising
and supervising in concerned with production, manufacturing and
services industry.

Key approaches to operations management
 There are some important approaches that helps in enhance level of
production and increase their efficiency that are as follows:
 Lean production
 Total quality management
 Six sigma

Lean production
 Lean production/ manufacturing is an
methodology that focus on improve quality
of production of goods and services by
minimizing wastage at highest level
simultaneously increase production of
goods and services.

Role of leader and manager in lean production
 Lean leader play a very important role in organisational development
and helps in lead to employees about operational changes to increase
values with reduction in time and cost.
 Leaders of Unilever provides vision and incentives with coaching and
support.

Total quality management
 Total quality management is one of the important concept and
continuous process that helps in eradicate or eliminate errors or
mistakes in manufacturing and in supply chain management to improve
customer experiences and make sure that employees are up to the mark
if it is not then give them proper training and development.

Role of leader and manager in TQM
 It is the duty of manager to work as a facilitator at workplace and it is
responsibility of manager to give education to employees while adopt
TQM in organisation.
 They have responsible for select right individuals so that they can give
their major contribution as line managers and can take charge of project
in case of unilever.

Six sigma
 Six sigma is continuous improvement and
data driven approach that works in
improvement in methodology and
elimination defects in products and
services.
 Lots of companies adopt that approach to
improve their quality.

 Leaders plays crucial role in driving culture to adopt suitable
atmosphere in which employees can give their major contribution and
managers create an environment in which foster employees and in their
success in Unilever when it adopts methodology of six sigma to
improve their quality.

 There are different function and roles that play by it in achieving
organisational goals and objectives that are as follows:
 Operation management involves almost similar management and their
systems in every industry in each functional areas of business.
 Operation management helps in improve overall productivity of
products and services, ratio of input and output shows the productivity.
