Accommodation service industry is the industry in whcih companies offer diverse services
ranging from bed and breakfast to accommodating as well as catering facilities to the
customers. This presentation is based on Intercontinental Hotel group which is a British
multinational hospitality company. This firm was incorporated in 2003 and headquartered
in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England, UK.

Introduction of hospitality industry
Hospitality sector is the significant contributor to the UK economy in financial employment
and reputation terms. This industry is a very broad sector and offer different service like
lodging, food, transportation and others to the customers. This sector is made up of two
distinct service like provision of overnight accommodation for individual staying away
home and the provision of sustenance for people eating away from home or not prepari8ng
their own meal.

Contribution of accommodation sector to the
industry as a whole
Accommodation industry refers to that business sector who offer room, building and
lodging services to people for stay, sleep ad live. The accommodation sector is the most
essential industry in UK. In 20215 hotel companies generated a total revenue of 17.4 billion
British pounds. The accommodation sector also make contribution in the development of
the UK economy in term of making contribution in GDP development.

Different types of accommodation services
There are different kind of accommodation services tat are offered by accommodation
industry. Some of them are mentioned as under:
Motels- Motel accommodation usually features a selection of studio, one or two bedroom
units. Tea, coffee and sometimes cooking facilities are provided and most units have a
television. Very affordable, motels are ideal for the more budget conscious traveller who
appreciate the ease of hotel stay.

Hotel- Hotels offer lodging and accommodation for a large amount of individual. Hotels
often provide private rooms and bathrooms, maid service, telephones, TV, gym and many
other services.
Resorts- A resort is a kind of hotel which is a full service lodging facility, intended
primarily for vacationers and usually located in places frequented for relaxation or
recreation like beaches, seashores or historic are, ski parks etc.

Scale and size of accommodation services
The hospitality sector is the wide and large group of business which offer service to its
consumer. The main motive behind offering effective and quality services to customers
is to develop experience of people. Size and scale of hospitality sector are explained on
the basis of star rating which indicates to luxury and quality of services of the company.
Size and scale are explained as below:
• Luxury hotel- this kind of hospitality companies indicates to 5 star hotels that permit
easy and intelligent planning to book the room.

Different forms of ownership
• Budget hotel- It is the lower category of
hospitality company which offer rooms and
meals at low prices.
• Mid range hotel- These kind of hospitality
companies refers to those firms that are perfect
combination of value for finance hotel as they
provide large rooms than budget hotel with more
extra services.

Different forms of ownership
• Franchises- It is the right business model and brand to utilize regarding a specific parent
firm to the limited time frame.
• Independently owned properties- It states to those hospitality companies which are
governed and direct and does not permit any other proprietors to utilize their name.
• Chain hotel management- It indicates to those hotel which is the part of the hotel that
run by the similar firm and owner.

Role of grading and classification system
The classification of hotels are done on the basis of their quality services for which they get
star rating. The wide variety of grading schemes are utilised by several companies
crosswise the world to define organisation's standard. It consist 1 star rating that has
restricted facilities and include within budget range hotel. 3 star hotel have wide public area
and more facilities than 1 star lodging.

• Impact of online review sites: In current era or changing environment online review has
become more essential to customer because they provide information about service
quality and decide the image of the hotel. For example, there are several review sites like
TripAdvisor and online travel agencies like Expedia that are placing their believe in hotel
review at the time of booking. At present time, customer always believing on them rather
than adds and marketing which is done by hotel companies.

Front office functions
In hospitality industry, front office department play crucial role because this division deals
instantly with consumers. They are face of the hospitality firm and liable for managing
the transaction between the hotel and customer. There are diverse form of front office
function that are described as below:
• Reception- It is the function of front office where booking are confirmed and other
services are offered to clients.
• Night audit- The hotel have 24/7 business environment so that consumer can check in or
check out at all time and make their payment by cash or cards.

Front office department is important for each hospitality company because the customer

They also make their concentration on profit, revenue and sales of the firm in efficacious
way.

This has been concluded from the above define information that hospitality industry have
cover wide area of market in current world. There are several kind of hotels that are
segregated on the basis of star rating and AAA ratings.
