Introduction
Implementation and management of change is complex process undertaken by the
organization in which the business makes the use of tools and techniques for the implementation
of the change for the purpose of achieving the desired outcome for the business (Al-Haddad &
Kotnour, 2015). This majorly emphasis upon the people and operations affected by the change
process and making forward planning for the change process. Here, assignment is based on the
case study of Southern Stations Wagyu who is facing challenges in managing and implementing
the change. The company is the renowned company which is recognized for the Wagyu beef
which it collectively produces and the quality lies in the best practice and world’s best genetics.
The assignment will discuss the ways by which the company will transform the beef industry in
New Zealand in the future. Also, the assignment will majorly focus on the changes in the human
aspects and the challenges faced by SSW in the management of change along with the
recommendations for the management of change through project management tools.
Influencing Beef Industry
New Zealand is the fifth largest exporter of beef in the entire world. The beef industry
shows the revenue of $8.5 billion in 2018 as the export (Meat Industry Association, 2020).
Being the largest manufacturing sector, this has provided jobs to 25,000 employees and also has
a special economic implication in the New Zealand economy. Further, Wagyu beef represents a
small percentage of the national beef production and only offers Black Wagyu (Beef2Live,
2020). This is considered as the challenge into the beef industry that SSW can face.
Moreover, Southern Stations Wagyu can influence the beef industry of New Zealand in
the future by operating Red Wagyu which is Red Breed of Japanese cattle and are popularly
known as the Black Wagyu. The reason behind focusing on the Black Wagyu as it is a bigger
animal and has pasture-based diet and has a better carcass yield. The company has influenced the
industry by introduced the marbled beef and gave the name ‘Wagyu’. The company has provided
the quality meat for the New Zealand farmers. Due to inefficient supply chains, the company has
started diminishing in the early 2000s. As a result, the company shifted the focus on the grass-fed
cattle. Also, the company has focused upon developing integrated value chain for the cattle

industry. The company will also strive to make the collaborations with other partners which is
crucial for Wagyu production.
Human Aspects of Changes
The company will make the human aspects of changes into the organization by making
the change in the organization structure. Change in the organization structure refers to changes
made in the hierarchy and the chain of command in order to promote efficient functioning of the
organization (Burke, 2017). Currently, the company has four employees as General Manager,
Production Manager and two Livestock Coordinators. Also, the company’s business model is
regarded as unique into the market. The company can make the changes into the human aspects
of business through building relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders as it can help the
company to operate successfully. Change into the supply chain is crucial aspect of the business
due to increase in the demand, there is an increase pressure on the business to make use of the
evolving ideas to make interconnected supply chain into the global markets (Öberg & Graham,
2016). Moreover, SSW can make the changes into the supply chain through maintaining the
relationships with the suppliers in order to meet the customer expectations. The company can
make direct interaction with every stakeholder into the supply chain which consist of the
farmers, StockCo Agri finance on which the business is highly dependable.
The human aspects of changes can also be made in terms of building relationships with
the stakeholders by utilizing and directing them towards the attainment of organizational goals.
Moreover, change into the stakeholders can arise by proactively engaging with every stakeholder
through communicating and involving them for the success of the change initiative (Butt,
Naaranoja, & Savolainen, 2016). Moreover, SSW considers relationships as a valuable
resource while implementing the change. The company manages the change through the
maintaining the balance between the interests of the stakeholders. This is to create long-term
relationships with the stakeholders by building trusts and respect. Employees as one of the
important stakeholders of the company are given support for the professional growth. The
company facilitates courses that will upskill the employees and make the development of
personal skills which can make them focused towards the change.
