Introduction
Communication is all about imparting and exchanging the information. Being able of
communicating in effective way is one of the most important life skills that a person could
learn in his lifetime. As per Matteson, Anderson and Boyden (2016), communication is
defined as the transfer of information for producing greater understanding about a particular
thing or subject. It could be done vocally, visually or through written media. However, from a
business standpoint, every transactions result from communication and this makes good
communication, an essential part that allows people to understand the shared information
more quickly and more accurately (Rawal, 2018). This paper shall elaborate on presenting an
essay on examining why communication skills are critical to effectively implementing
strategies in workplaces.

Communication and its classification
Workers in the digital age need to know the different ways of effectively conveying
and receiving messages in person and via phone, social media and e-mail. Lack of strong
skills of communication influence everything negatively right from client satisfaction to the
employee turnover (Sisko Maarit Lipiainen, Ensio Karjaluoto & Nevalainen, 2014). Even, the
process of implementing strategies in workplace could be unsuccessful without proper flow
of communication. It is to note that communication can be classified into four types and they
are- Verbal, Non-verbal, Written and Visual. Verbal communication is based on the language
of a person. It is considered to be an inseparable part of business communication. It can
further be classified into two types- oral and written (Oakman et al., 2018). Oral
communication involves exchanging of opinions, ideas and the information through verbal
means. In workplaces, it include telephonic communication, informal and formal meetings,

oral presentations, seminars and conferences etc. Written communication on the other hand is
communicated in written form and they are basically used when the audiences are present at a
distance and when permanency of the record is required. In workplaces, communication is
done on the basis of communication channels and the on the basis of purpose and style.

It is to note that there are two types of communication channels and they are
mechanical media and physical media. Mechanical media is either electronic or written
channels. It is basically used as archived for the messages and for giving a big picture and
deeper knowledge. Different examples of mechanical media include billboards, social media
communication, personal letters, and weekly newsletters, e-mailing etc. (Ryan, Emerson &
Robertson, 2014). Physical media on the other hand is when the person talking could be seen
