The Mayo Clinic is an academic research centre located in Rochester in the state of
Minnesota. It is focused in the provision of the following services; medical research, education
and all-around integrated clinical services. Mayo clinic has over the years specialized in offering
treatment and addressing difficult conditions through the use of tertiary medical care. It is
considered one of the best medical centres globally. In the United States, it is ranked number
one, (Shippie et al. 2015). To achieve all these milestones, it stresses on its values and mission. It
has a mission of inspiring hope and improving the general well-being of the patient by providing
quality integrated medical care. The driving value is, “The needs of the patient come first.”
Socio-cultural
Socio-cultural practices play a major role in the overall performance of organizations.
Mayo clinic has embraced the socio-cultural aspect of the employees and its patients while
delivering quality health care. Mayo Clinic has an integrated and woven commitment to
embrace, socio-cultural and diversity of the employees and patients. It believes this will help
them achieve their mission and underline the values, (Fang et al. 2016). Mayo clinic organizes 50
events annually that will enable employees to come into contact with peers from varied social
backgrounds. Among its policies, it strongly prohibits any form of discrimination based on the
sexual orientation, ethnicity, age and religious beliefs.
Demography
Discrimination based on sex, religion, race, gender and ethnicity affects the demographic
composition of employees of an organization and the customers served. The policy of prohibiting
any form of discrimination has made mayo clinic to embrace every member of the society.
