Framework
Health education is an important strategy for promotion of good
health practices and prevention of diseases. It provides learning
experiences on various health topics. This teaching plan is tailored to
meet the needs of 69-year-old patient who is a firefighter. Teaching
Mr D about the use of Metaformin in combination with diet to help
manage his diabetes. Since Mr D has lost his visual ability due to
diabetes type two, metaformin in combination with a proper diet and
physical exercises will play a critical role in helping the patient
manage the disease effectively (Stevens et al., 2018).

The teaching plan is aimed towards assisting Mr D to manage his
diabetes condition and overcome the visual impairment which is
caused by diabetes type two. The teaching plan will involve teaching
patient D how to use metaformin 500mg. The drugs should not be
used for patients with kidney diseases and the patient should inform
the doctor if the patient has an history of liver and heart diseases
(Kandula et al., 2018). Mr D will be advised on how to use the drug
and the type of meals and exercises that he should undertake while
taking the medication. The teaching will commence after one week
and it will be take three days. The teaching will happen at the clinic
which will provide access to all the facilities required to teach Mr D
regarding his condition and the medication that he should use. This is

because the medication has some side effects that the patient should
understand how to control. The metaformin should also be taken with
a special diet so that it can work properly and in order to minimize the
chances of having very low blood pressure. The teaching will also
involve family members who can assist Mr D with roles that they are
not able to perform due to vision impairment. The teaching will be
done through a lecture which will involve demonstration and
presentations and use of videos.

effects.
Mr D should know the appropriate diet and physical exercises
that should be combined with Metaformin.

Metaformin is an antidiabetic biguanide with an
antihypeglycemia action that affects transportation
of glucose through cell membranes. The drug
works by increasing the uptake of glucose in the
muscles and other body cells (Hayat et al., 2018).
It also inhibits absorption of intestinal glucose and
hepatic gluconeogenesis which is critical in this
